Hotel Welcome in Brussels
 

I've read really good things about this place and am planning to book a room there in January. Anyone know if they have CNN, BBC, or some comparable channel in the rooms?

I honestly don't remember because I never turn the damn thing on. But I'm there again next week, so I'll check for you.

We're looking for moderately priced lodging in Brussels for the week after Xmas and are considering the Hotel Welcome, but the decor of the rooms (in the pics on their web site) looks a wee bit, well, over the top. And I can't find a Provence room, perhaps because there isn't any, although it's mentioned in guides. Is there a particular room that you've enjoyed that's more subtle in its decor than others?

The decor might be a bit over the top...but those king sized beds are terrific! And Sophie and Michel and the restaurant are first class! Personally I like a little bordello mdecorating!

Not that I'd have it in my own house!

I've read your (and sheila's) recommendation of the Hotel Welcome, which is the prime reason we are considering it. I'll take caring, friendly proprietors, great beds and great food over decor any day, particularly since the price is so right.
Is there a particular "bordello-decor" room that you recommend? How about Morocco?

The plainest one I've stayed in was North Sea, but it's not on the web site, so I don't know if it's been redone.

Of the one's I've stayed in that are there, Japan is the plainest. But I quite liked India, too.

I just take what I'm given. I wouldn't personally decorate a room the way some of them have been, but I've never felt I couldn't cope with what they've done.

I might ask for a tour when I'm there, but next week I'm late in and early out:(

We stayed at the Hotel Welcome in September (in the Thailand room which was perfectly charming with skylights and an impeccably clean bathroom). As I recall they had cable T.V. which carried CNN Europe which is quite a different animal than the regular CNN we see here. It has a British influence and it is very business oriented. There may havve been another English language station or two but we weren't in long enough to see much.

By the way, DO NOT miss having dinner in the hotel restaurant. The food, service and ambience were superb.

I couldn't get in, thanks to a mixture of Celtic playing Anderlecht (they lost) and a European Youth Congress:(

I stayed at the Atlas, which was fine, but 50% more expensive and a tad soulless.
