Hotel Virgina, 14th (south), Paris
Can't go into work just yet (post-hurricane), therefore working on my 'collection' of inexpensive Paris hotels.
I wonder if anyone knows anything about this hotel near Metro Porte d'Orleans called Hotel Virgina? It's a two-star and looks very nice on its website. Couldn't find any internet comments about it. Yes, it is located on the fringe of the 14th. http://www.hotel-virgina.com/ |
board is pretty active today, so up to the top for me...

We stayed at an apartment about 2 blocks up the street for a week in June - I walked by the Hotel several times on the way to the shops/metro. My sister in law was staying at a hotel on Rue d'Alesia and I thought the Hotel Virgina looked much nicer. We enjoyed the neighborhood - it is convenient to the 4 line, and walking distance to Parc Montsouris. Several supermarkets, restaurants and stores are a block away on General Leclerc, but this street (Pere Corentin) was very quiet / residential. It was our first trip to Paris, and I would go back and stay in the same place again.....

Thanks, mayorl... we liked it around Daguerre/Denfert, so this isn't that much farther out.

I went inside the Hotel Virgina when we were in Paris in October... we found the Porte d'Orleans metro and walked on rue Pere Corentin to the hotel. I didn't like this route because the bus terminal is there and the street was kind of dirty/trashy. The hotel itself was nice enough in the lobby and breakfast room areas, although a big dog lying on the rug near the entry barked at me when I came in and went out. The lady at the desk was very nice and showed me the breakfast room (which really I could see as it was just off the lobby), and said she couldn't show me any rooms b/c the hotel was fully booked. I recall passing a small Franprix between the metro and the hotel. I might not have been as put off by the 'feel' if we had walked up ave du Gen Leclerc then swung around to the hotel. It's a longer walk to come from metro Alesia. So... it's probably not staying on my 'short list'...

Thanks for the update, I think I may cross it off my Paris Hotel list too. . .

Hi Travelnut!!
In your short list..have you got the Hotel Les Jardins d'Alésia? Have a look at it..I stayed only one night in this hotel...but I loved it because the 14th is a really liveful area...and the hotel is quite cheap for the location and well decorated...I loved their the breakfast room! You can have a look on it on www.hoteljardinsalesia.com! Hope it will help you to enlarge your list... |
Yes, Audirennes, I do have Hotel Jardin d'Alesia on my list. I stopped by there, too and got a brochure. My caveat there is they only have 3 twin rooms and not all rooms have a minibar, so I might not get exactly what I want there. The man at the desk looked a bit surprised/confused about me just walking in to chat and ask for a brochure. It was very quiet there (evening time), and did look nice in the lobby (I didn't see any rooms).
It is convenient to Metro Alesia. |
