Has anyone stayed at the Victoria hotel on Buda side near the river, please let me know if it ok, before I book it

We stayed there in 2001 and enjoyed it. We found it in guide books and in the NY Times. The building only has about 22 rooms all with great views of the Danube. The breakfast was average, the staff very nice, the location great for it was near the chain bridge and near the subway and the tram. We found that it was a very decent 4 star hotel with a large bedroom and bathroom which was built in the 90's. At that time we paid about $92.00 including taxes and breakfast which we found very reasonable.

Dear Bela,<BR>We've planned a trip to Budapest in June for a week and would like to know about Hotel Victoria. How is this hotel compared to Gellert Hotel. I read most of the postings and there are some bad reviews on Gellert. Please clarify as to which hotel is a better one. Thanks, tm

Stayed at Victoria last April - very good value with just fantastic views from floor to ceiling windows. Nice enough newly renovated and big rooms. The main receptionist is very pleasant - check out rants and raves, everyone agrees. We had top floor - walk up one flight. With shape of building for floor one below top (I think 7th) and room on the right as you face hotel (not so close to lift shaft so no noise and slightly bigger). Only problem was bath room was not great (bit dated). gellert is much more variable. Have not stayed there for a few years (2x)- where one room OK; the other a total stinker. The lobby of the Gellert still feels very much like going back in time - to 1960s because of furniture and I suspect lots of the hotel rooms are in desperate need of a total revamp. So need more luck. You can use the gellert's hotels (for a price) without being a resident. Location wise - fairly comparable for convenience. I would choose the Victoria, but go have a look at Gellert. If you love it, you could always change hotel.

With the new hotels that have opened on the Buda side, Hotel Victoria remains a great deal for the price. I have stayed there 3 times -- the last time 2 years ago -- the reports above are consistent with my experiences -- especially the front desk people and the VIEW!!!<BR><BR>Other comments: It is much more centrally located than the Gellert -- it's a 5 min walk to chain bridge and the castle hill funicular. [You can easily walk DOWN castle hill to the hotel.] The Bathyanyi Ter red line metro stop is about an 8 minute walk in the other direction. This will get you to Pest as well as to Deli Py if you want to take a train to Pecs for example. The HEV [suburban rail] is also at this metro station -- from here you can reach the charming Danube bend town of Szentendre in 45 minutes! There is a big SPAR store on that square[great place to get your paprika btw] as well as ATMs downstairs. There are a couple of serviceable restaurants on bem rakpart also as well as some very nice ones within walking distance. I've enjoyed the Buda side so much I can't imagine changing:)

Just got back from B-P. Stayed at the Victoria -- all of the above favorable comments are right on the money. The view of the Danube, bridges and parliment is fabulous. <BR><BR>Also visited the Gellert -- major noisy construction going on right in front and appeared to be way overpriced.

Forgot to add the word &quot;pool&quot; Gellert's pools include beautiful indoor pools, spas and outside wave pool.
