Hotel Verneuil
 

I read all the post on Paris Hotels. This one seems to get excellent reviews. They sent me a price of 145e a night. I believe it for a deluxe room. While I was searching someone suggested asking for rooms 404-401-402. Since most of the post are old, I was wondering if anyone has stayed there recently or had any comments? Thanks!

Hi, don't choose room 401 unless you want a standard double room. The other room next to #401 is #402 which is a deluxe double-very nice, has good space to walk around comfortably, a canopied bed, a large ginger jar in its showcase, desk and chair, marble bathroom as all in the hotel except no bidet but 2 bathrobes. The room overlooks rue Verneuil so it's light and you can open your window as the street is very quiet.

Are you sure it's 145 euros for a deluxe room? Because 145 euros is the regular rate for a standard room; the deluxe room is 165 euros unless they're having a special.

I just got back after a week there in room 404. This was a standard double for $145. The room was small but charming, with beamed ceilings, sunny, with a large window facing the quiet rue Verneuil. Bed was comfy, firm - but no canopy. Bathroom was small but marble & well appointed. Sounds like 402 is a deluxe double - if you can really get it for $145, grab it. Even with our standard room, however, we were content, and I am quite picky.

Only the deluxe doubles have the canopied bed. My standard double bed didn't have a canopy but a carved covering above the bed (I don't know what is the correct term).

When I requested a deluxe room-they came back with a price of 145.00
After reading your post, I e-mailed them back-it was for a standard room. Now they quoted me 190.00 for a deluxe. Would you choose Hotel Verneuil for 190
Grand Ecoles for 130

The Verneuil is way above in quality than the other three hotels. Honestly I haven't stayed at the other three places but from what others have described and what I have read about them,they seem to be more of the 2* quality although they're 3*'s.
I've been inside one of the deluxe rooms at the Verneuil and I will let you know that comparing that room against the photos I've seen of Pas de Calais, Grands Ecoles, and Minerve, the Verneuil comes out way ahead.
I'd even get a standard room at Verneuil instead of a room at the other 3 hotels. Just my opinion however.

I'm sorry, my mistake, I misquoted the rate for the deluxe double. I checked their website and it does go for 190 euros instead of 165 euros as I stated. In fact, their rates never go down, they just have special offers like free breakfast during slow periods, or free chocolate, etc.

Thanks so much. I really want to book today so I can start looking for my other hotels. (Florence, Rome, Cinque Terre) Would you spend the extra money on the deluxe or go for the standard room? We are spending 150 a night in Nice...and 206 in Venice. Last night when I was figuring out how much we would spend on hotels-I fell off the chair! We need hotels for 17 nights-OUCH! Thanks for the advice!

For just myself, the standard room was fine. For a couple it will be very very small. But I've read that some couples found it bearable.
In my room (401)there was very little room at the sides of the beds and just some space at the foot of the bed where there's a desk and chair.
A couple of nights' stay may be ok for a couple but more than that you may wish to get the deluxe room.
In fact, if you can afford to reserve the deluxe room, do it.

By the way, the elevator is not on the ground floor. You have to walk up stairs to get to it on the 1st floor.

There will be two of us. I think im going to go for the deluxe. Any suggestions for hotels in Florence? That's my next project. You have been great-Thanks!

Thanks, I have not stayed in Florence so I don't have any personal recommendations. One B&B that's popular here is Tourist House Ghiberti but I think they charge you one night in advance-I think I remember they mentioned that when I enquired last year.

We have loved the Beacci Tuornabuoni each time we have stayed there but unfortunately haven't stayed there for 6 years. Perhaps someone who has been more recently can tell you more. It is ideally located and has a wonderful roof terrace where breakfast is served in nice weather.

I just stayed at Tourist House Ghiberti in March, and it was lovely. The rooms are large, and the price was reasonable (off season rate with stay of 8 nights 100 euros -- will go up in high season or with shorter stay). They did not charge us a night in advance, but we gave a credit card # to reserve the room. They also give discounts on rooms if you pay cash. The room was nicer than a room we paid twice the price for in Florence a couple of years ago.
