Hotel Uhland..how did you like it?
 

Hello, this hotel seems to be popular but I am a bit reluctant to book it because it is so much cheaper than others in Munich, so maybe it is a bit run down or something. Anybody been there recently?

We stayed there last June (2004) and really liked the hotel. Clean, not run down at all, helpful staff, breakfast was typical German cold fair, one of the staff will do laundry for a very reasonable price. Near a subway station and very close to a bus stop. The hotel sells a pass for the public transportation system and will help you figure it out. It is a pretty far walk to the center of town so we only walked it a few times. The rest of the time we used bus, tram, and subway. No problem. I would stay here again in a heart beat particularly since they are one of the few hotels we could find that had a room to hold 4 people.

There is also internet available in the lobby and if you are on for less than 10 minutes it's free. My only complaint is that the computer is in a room where smoking is allowed so it always smelled bad. The rest of the hotel did not smell, just this one room.

We stayed at the Hotel Uhland last spring. My husband, son and daughter-in-law all liked it very much. My daughterinlaw travels often in GErmany and she thought the Uhland had very large rooms and well-appointed bathrooms (she always wants a shower and tub). Our group did not mind the few blocks walk to the city center and train station, but the close proximity of the subway stop worked well for us on the evenings we stayed too long at various beerhalls! We were given 2 rooms next to each other with balconies - very nice. There was a free parking place in the backyard for our rental car. The buildings in the neighborhood are nicely kept old mansions - probably all apartments and hotels.

This is my budget hotel of choice when I go to Munich. I like their breakfast buffet very much and their staff takes good care of you! the hotel itself is also in pretty good shape. Maybe it's cheaper because it's a farther walk to the center of town? Not sure.

We stayed there in 2004, and found it most delightful. Booked based on comments on this board. Parking space available, good breakfast, and within walkable distance to major attractions.

Our family of four stayed there in June 2004. We loved it. Their family room was spacious. It's very well-kept, spotlessly clean, new bathrooms and furniture (in our room at least), great breakfast buffet in a charming breakfast room. It's in a beautiful and quiet upscale part of town, an easy 10 minute walk to the train for day-trips to Salzburg, Fussen, etc. The staff is very helpful, the hotel is securely locked at night, and the desk is manned 24/7. They have free parking and free use of their bikes-- it's fun to ride from the hotel to the river and around the Oktoberfest park. Nice restaurants in the immediate neighborhood. I can't think of a single negative about it. We loved it and it was more than we'd expected. It's in what must have been a mansion before being converted to a B&B. Very charming. If it's available when you need it, grab it now!

My husband and I just stayed there a few weeks ago. We thought it was great! Very cute place, friendly hosts and a nice breakfast. I think it may cost less because it's not in the center of town. It's right next to the Octoberfest grounds so it's a lot more expensive around that time! The subway is close by so it's easy to get to all the major sights. Plus it's kind of nice being in a residential neighborhood instead of in the touristy parts of town. You should definitely stay there if you have the chance!

Maureen, the"little Westie" is a cute little white dog I assume? I'll be homesick for my 2 little dogs by then!

Yes, a Westie is a West Highland White Terrier. We have one ourselves. I think the one at the Uhland is named Lisa. If you look through their website, you will see her pictured with two women standing in a room. You will see Lisa often in the reception area. She's a cutie, and reminded us of our own Mattie at home.

Funny the things that you remember about a great trip. I'll look out for Lisa.

When I last saw Lisa at Hotel Uhland, she seemed a little old and lethargic. Was that the same dog? I was really sad to see her that way!

Also one of the employees has a larger dog that he sometimes brings at night. That dog just kind of lies at the foot of the reception desk.

You're right, it's the homey quirky things I remember about places. The man who worked nights last June was funny-- very friendly and talkative. I don't remember his name, though, or if he had a dog.

Maybe Lisa is getting old. It happens to the best of us!
