Hotel Suggestions Please - Istanbul
Hello Forum Members: Can anyone suggest some inexpensive but safe, clean and pleasant hotels in the Sultanahmet neighborhood of Istanbul? From my on-line research it looks like there should be some reasonable choices under $60 US per night, but I can't really tell. I'll be 4 nights in Istanbul (starting next week so ability to book on line is critical) and will be traveling and exploring alone so location and safety are important. Good internet access is essential, but it doesn't have to be in the room or included in the rate. I've taken an online peek at Ottoman Empire Hotel, Faros Hotel, Olimpiyat Hotel and Deniz Konak Hostel. Anyone familiar with any of these? Other suggestions or advice?

We were satisfied with the Hotel Hali, recommended it to a friend who also liked it.

Hi
We stayed at the Hanedan Hotel - http://www.hanedanhotel.com - and were very satisfied with our room, service and location. It has a wonderful roof top terrace where you take breakfast. You are also permitted to bring your own alcohol up there. It was picturesque especially in the evenings. The Hagia Sophia, lit up, seemed so close you could touch it. For a little more across the road is the Hotel Alp Guesthouse - http://www.alpguesthouse.com. Its proud owner took me for a tour of the hotel. It has been refurbished and has a lovely Ottoman theme. The rooftop terrace is also wonderful and more themed than the Hanedan. For these reasons the hotel's higher charge is justified and would be my first choice. Both these hotels are situated in a quiet part of Sultanahmet (except for the call to prayer at 5.30am which pervades through all the city but I loved it nonetheless). |
Worldinabag - Thanks so much for the reply. I will check out both suggestions. Looked at some of your other posts. Great information for travelers everywhere.
