Hotel suggestions for Barcelona and Seville

Could someone please suggest a hotel in Barcelona and Seville? We are trying to decide between the Majestic and the Condes des Barcelona. In Seville, we are thinking about the Alfonso XIII -- all of these based on the Fodor's Choice. Many many thanks!

The Majestic is wonderful. I was very pleased with the accomodations, and my room. The location is in the Eixample area on the Passeig de Gracia surrounded by all of the finest designer stores such as Chanel, Loewe, etc. There are many fine Tapas restaurants and many other restaurants within walking distance. The Majestic has a small pool and health club on the roof,if that interests you. The Condees des Barcelona is not a bad choice as well. It has an old section and a new section in the hotel. I personally like the location of the Majestic a little better. If you are into a more formal dining experience Drolma is a very fine restaurant located in the Majestic. I did not eat breakfast at the Majestic, as it was a huge "big spread" with tons of serious food. You are able to grab coffee in the Majestic bar in the morning. That is just not "my style" for breakfast. I was much happier getting out every morning to have something lite. Can't give you feedback about Alfonso XIII.
You will adore Barcelona.

Many thanks for the advice. I think that we will splurge for the Majestic. We are very much looking forward to it. Again, many thanks. Do you happen to have the famous Maribel files on Barcelona? I have emailed her directly on advice from other threads, but am uncertain if I have to correct email address.

The location of Majestic is about the same as the location of Condes De Barcelona. So, if you want to save yourself some money, stay at Condes de Barcelona. Their rooms have recently been refurbished and the hotel looks very new.
In Seville, stay at Tryp Colon. It is not very expensive but the location is fine. The hotel is a little old but some of the rooms have been refurbished.

I very STRONGLY suggest you read Maribel's file on Seville before deciding to stay at the Alfonso XIII.

The Condes De Barcelona is a very attractive hotel, good service and situated in a lovely area. The roof top garden is nice and when I stayed there a few years ago, the huge terry robes and the luxury type bathroom was just great. The little chocolates on your pillow at night were a nice treat too.

The Hotel Neri is a lovely boutique hotel near the old cathedral in Barcelona. My husband and I loved it when we stayed this spring. They made very good restaurant recommendations.

If the budget allows the best hotel in Barcelona is Hotel Arts, best in Seville is easily Alfonso X111

Hotel Arts is a good hotel (I stayed there this July), and I suppose it is the best currently available in Barcelona. However, I wasn't enchanted with the city at all, and there are no spectacularly wonderful hotels there either.

We stayed at the Majestic in July and thought it was a great choice. We had a huge room with a balcony overlooking the Passig de Gracia (3rd floor), the hotel bar was a great place to grab a drink on the way out to or home from dinner, and the location is great. We walked just about everywhere.

alg,
It sounds as though you had the exact same view at The Majestic that I did, except I think I was on the 4th or 5th floor. I just loved the location and was very pleased with the accomodations there.
I hope to return to Barcelona again, as I really enjoyed myself and thought the city had many things to see and do. I also had some amazing meals there.

I agree, I really liked the food in Barcelona (I love seafood). There are several tapas bars within a couple of blocks of the Majestic...one, the "Cerveseria" is in Maribel's file and it was one of my favorites. My BF returned to the Majestic in August and had another wonderful stay.

Cervasaria Rocked! I ate there twice. The potato tortilla espaniola, figs with olives, shrimp, and other wonderful Tapas treats that I would love to be eating tinight for dinner!
