Hotel Sublim Eiffel - good location for 1st trip to Paris?
 

Hi All,
I will be taking my wife to Paris for our 10th anniversary this October, and have found what I think is a good rate at a unique hotel - the Hotel Sublim Eiffel. It's located in the 15th, close to the intersection of the 6th and 7th. Since this will be our 1st time in Paris together, I was wondering if this is a good location. I'd like to have some nearby shops/bakeries/bistros/etc. so that we don't feel like we're commuting everytime we leave the hotel. Any help would be appreciated.

It is not a "good" location, in my opinion, but it is acceptable. If it is really very near the Eiffel Tower, you will indeed feel like you are commuting to go to other places, because none of the other sights is near the Eiffel Tower.

Public transportation is so good in Paris, however, that even the most "inconvenient" location ends up being all right.

It isn't that near the ET - it is near the Sevres Lecourbe metro station. I agree w/ kerouac - an OK but not great location.

For an anniversary/special trip I personally would want to stay near the river or in the 4th/5th/6th. But if you got a really good rate, it would be OK IMO.

For my money 1st time together in Paris, anniversary, its St Germain Des Pres. Our first we stayed @ Hotel Saint Germain Des Pres on rue Bonaparte perfect location walk to the seine, metro at the top of the hill with the best crepe stand going.

I agree with the above, and if I had to choose, being near the Seine in the 5th or 6th would be ideal. One of my favorite locations is in the 4th..Ile St Louis. It has several nice hotels.

Although I like that area, for the first time and for an anniversary I'd go with Ile St. Louis or the Marais (4th).

I looked at your hotel online, and the rate looks to be around 155 euros including breakfast, which is a pretty good rate. My concern would be that it's located on what looks like a major street, the Blvd Garibaldi.

I cannot speak for the ammenities of that location, as I am not really familiar with it, but it does seem fairly far out. And while it is true that the metro is very easy to navigate, it does take time to come in from the 15th. We try to stay in the 1st, 3rd, 4th, 5th, or 6th - we even thought the 7th near Invalides was out of the way. We also remember that the first time we went to Paris the metro was on strike...not too great if you're too far out.

Would you consider moving in closer, or do you love the decor and feel of this hotel? If so, what are you looking for and how long are you staying? Maybe someone has some suggestions.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I would certainly consider moving closer to the 4th/5th/6th, however, I'm not sure I can find something comperable in the 150-200E range. Ideas?

Oh, gosh, for 200 euros there are several (and others can tell you about more). Have you checked Trip advisor?

In the 5th we stayed in a beautiful room overlooking the Pantheon at the Hotel du Pantheon, and I see that they're offering rooms in October for 180E w/o breakfast (but you could go nearby for one). Also the Hotel Britannique in the 1st near Chatelet, has rooms for 160 euros and got very good reviews on TA. Maybe these aren't the look you're going for - I'm not sure. I'd suggest that you look on TA and also do a search on here for Paris hotels, and you'll find a lot.

Wherever you end up, you will LOVE Paris, and I think it's really wonderful that you're celebrating your 10th anniversary there! Congratulations!

I have to agree with all of the above. There are several very nice hotels on Rue Jacob in the 6th. La Villa St Germain and the Millesime are both within your price range. There are several others,d'Angleterre, du Danube, Lenox that might suit. Lots of cafes, shops and services nearby and good transportation options.

Wow, leilasong, the Bellechasse is amazing! Figures, it's designed by Christian Lacroix. And it's an exceptional location - you can't get much better. TA reviews are good on location and staff, say the rooms are small. (Of course, most rooms are small in Paris).

Agree with all the above, especially Avalon's recommendation for hotels on rue Jacob; great street with lots of hotel choices. I would add Hotel des Marronniers to the list.
