Hotel Splendid

My husband and I will be traveling to Prague in mid October along with 3 other couples. One of the husbands made us reservations at the Hotel Splendid, which is in area 7. He is a former resident of Prague and chose this hotel because of its location close to an apartment he and his wife have.

I am afraid the Hotel Splendid doesn't live up to its name! Has anyone stayed there? We don't need luxury, but since we will be spending about 10 nights there as our "home base" I'm a bit concerned.

thanks for your help

I will top this for you...perhaps you should have relied on "one of the WIVES" to make the reservation!

Isok,

This hotel is reviewed on tripadvisor.com. The reviews there are somewhat mixed (to put it mildly).

I saw the reviews on Trip Advisor--that's what worried me!! Especially since there are not any non-smoking rooms.

The gentleman who made the reservations said that I should get used to smoke if I am going to travel in Prague. He also implied that just because a hotel says on the internet that it has non-smoking rooms, doesn't mean that it will have them.

Any suggestions for a hotel in Prague area &?

Top this. The lady and I need hotel recommendations. Thanks.

Isok,

FYI, on my first trip to Prague 2 years ago I stayed in City Inn, very close to the central train station and the old city. Check it out - nothing fancy but excellent location and relatively inexpensive by Prague standards (check their website but also look into www.a-prague.com which often offers lower prices). City Inn does have non-smoking rooms.

In early October I will be staying in Corinthia Panorama which I got on Priceline for $88/night. This is more of a mega-hotel but not as conveniently located.

copied from my response to your duplicate post of this question:

i would rent a flat. when i worked in prague, my client rented a place for me through

www.happyhouserentals.com/

they were very professional, friendly and spoke perfect english. the flat was very large, newly renovated but in a lovely old building. HHR offers a huge selection of flats all over town. far exceeded expectations. they do short term rentals of 2 days +

i would probably stay in a hotel for under 3 or 4 days but for 10, i would definitely rent a flat....even a better deal if you don't mind sharing a flat with the others in your group (even if you prefer to rent separate flats, it is a much better deal than a hotel IMO). i would never stay in a hotel for 10 nights in prague.
