Hotel Smeraldo or Hotel Damaso??
Going on a pre-cruise trip to Rome and having a hard time deciding on a hotel. Which hotel would you recommend, Hotel Smeraldo or Hotel Damaso? We are staying for 6 nights so looking for something that is not very expensive.

Hi Ziggles, if you can still edit your response you should tag this for Italy. That way the right people will see your post. If you can't do it ask the moderators for help. Good luck!

Lavandula, thank you!! First timer, not familiar with how to post. I just re-posted it to the Italy forum, didn't see the tag option the first time. I appreciate you letting me know, because I didn't realize it wasn't on the Italy forum.

Hello. Welcome to the Fodors community. To help explain, there isn't an individual Italy Forum. All topics are listed together on the one master Europe board. Tagging for a specific country will help those looking for threads about that country. Even old timers forget to tag their threads sometimes and it isn't a big problem. If this happens again, rather than starting a new topic you can ask the moderators to add a tag to your existing thread. See the orange triangle with the exclamation point, that is a direct link to communicate with the forum moderators.

We stayed at the Hotel Smeraldo but it was years ago. The location was good. The entrance was in a very narrow side street and the taxi driver had trouble finding it but luckily we had a printed map with us to show him. We walked to most places but caught the tram to St Peter's.
We had a few nights there when we arrived in Rome, then came back later in the same trip and had another night or two before we flew out. It seemed that part of the hotel had been refurbished as the two different rooms were completely different. Both were OK but nothing flash. We travel on a budget so weren't expecting fancy. The reception staff were not particularly helpful. I don't know Hotel Damaso but if it's on a busy street it will be noisy. Have you checked recent reviews on Trip Advisor? |

I have heard good things about the Hotel Smeraldo but have not stayed there myself. The Damaso looks very nice, as well. Both seem to get good reviews on TripAdvisor. If you are concerned about noise, you can try and request a quiet room.
