Yes it does exist and is my best-kept secret in Milano. I stay there all the time when in Milano or enroute to another city in Italia.

Hotel Sara (2 **)
Via Sacchini, 17
20131 Milano

www.Hotelsara.it
tel 011 39 02 20 17 73
fax 011 39 02 29 52 96 14
email: [email protected]

This is a family-owned hotel (Rosabla is the wife and a friend of mine). You can email her directly at the email address above, or fax the hotel your request. Double rooms with bathroom/TV/telephone are 50 euros (cash), slightly higher if paid with credit card. All rates include daily breakfast served in the dining area off from the lobby.

The Hotel Sara is down the street from the Piazza Aspromonte. The hotel is easily accessible via the #33 bus from the Milano Centrale train station (stop is in Piazza Aspromonte), or the Metro # 1 or 2 to the "Loreto" stop and walk the few blocks over to Via Sacchini, or pay 10-11 euros for a taxi from the station.

The site worked fine for me. Rather than trying to email them directly off/from the site (if that is the problem you're having?), use your own email to email them. (I usually email them from my home computer account or from work). Also, try faxing or telephoning them, the numbers all work. If sending a fax, put it to the attention of Rosalba, if calling, ask for Howard, as he speaks English and could answer your questions directly.

They don't advertise the lower-with-cash-rate; however you can ask for that rate if requesting a double. I have stayed there several during the last 2 years (winter, spring, and fall) and the rate has been the same. I was last there 8 months ago and paid 50 euros for my double room. There is the off-chance that they may have increased their prices in January, but their rates would still be very low compared to other Milan hotels.....

thanks, it must have been a problem with the email server the other day, because i got through last night.

so the bigger question is, are both of these the same place? appears to be:

http://sara.hotelsinmilan.it.

www.hotelsara.it

i was quoted 65 euro for a double and 85 euro for a triple. pretty good relative to other hotels in the area!

how is the location, i've never been to milan?

Yes, that is one and the same hotel. You might ask when you get there if it will be a lower price if paid with euros cash (vs. Visa or MC). They are a very nice family and the atmosphere is genial and friendly.

I found the location of the Hotel Sara to be very convenient. It is within walking distance to the Corso Buenos Aires (the main street in Milan) and very close to the Metro "Loreto" stop. There is a convenient bus that goes frequently between the Piazza Aspromonte (up the street) and the Milano centrale train station as well. I walked to the Metro stop and would catch it to the Duomo stop where you can see the Duomo, the famous Galleria shopping arcade across the street, the La Scala opera house, the Sforzesco Castle, etc. Try to make a reservation for the 'Last Supper' ahead of time here in the U.S. from the Aliwest Italian website, it is worth seeing.

You will like Milan, there are a lot of various things to do that will keep you busy for several days - if not a week! Check out my trip report on Milan for ideas on where to go, what to see, do, etc. http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...p;tid=34731679

Buon viaggio!
