Hotel San Regis or Hotel Vernet

I've never been to Paris before and will be going this April with my wife to celebrate our 2nd anniversary. I've narrowed down my search to the San Regis and the Hotel Vernet. Any insight or comments on these hotels or any others would be greatly appreciated!

We are looking for a luxurious hotel where the service is excellent and the rooms are beautiful. Basically, I want my first trip to Paris to be perfect! Thanks very much.

The St. Regis is a small, elegant, boutique hotel. It is very French and very wonderful. The service is excellent and the staff is charming and efficient. We had a suite (Veignt Room 20) with a foyer, a separate living area, a large bedroom with a king size bed and a large marble bath. Large windows opened to tulip window boxes. Downstairs is a nice bar and small, excellent dining room. We were there for 5 days and I really did not want to leave.

The Vernet. You should also reserve a table at their restaurant Les Elysées du Vernet, it is a two star Michelin and worth every centimes, you will dine under a dome built by Gustave Eiffel.

I'd go for the San Regis; much better design than the Vernet in my opinion; look the photos at the web and compare. San Regis is more classy and upscale than the Vernet, but it's more expensive too. the only factor the Vernet is superior to the San Regis is the restaurant, but yu are in Paris, so you can find restaurants of the same standard near the hotel.

Cannot really go by the web sites, as they are PR material and are easily manipulated just as brochures are. Suggest you seek out people who know both. I do, and would choose the Vernet
