Hotel Saint Jacques, Paris?
 

For DH and I, first week in September, for three night stay, I have reserved this hotel. It looks fabulous on-line and has very good reviews everywhere I looked. They were helpful and responsive via e-mail, as well.

Does anyone have any direct knowledge of this hotel?

Yep. Great place. The online pictures are accurate. The staff is friendly. Convenient location between Notre Dame and the Pantheon.

I am the kind of traveler who does NOT believe the hotel is just for sleeping. So I kind of obsess over getting just the right little hotel (not a high-rise or chain). To me, it becomes a home in a new city, and I like it to be welcoming and comfortable and in a good area.

Hi all, I myself am looking for a hotel in Paris for Aug end. Sorry to hijack this thread, but I checked their single room and it looks so small :( how is the connectivity to all major sites though?

It's a very good central location. It is a more budget hotel, so the single room will be very small (anything called a single room is very small 99 pct of the time). I'd book a double, I always do when I'm alone. Many hotels have discounts in August, anyway, so unless you are trying to really spend very little, you should get a good deal and not have to book a single.

The St Jacques has a big difference in price between a single and double (86 and 124 euro in August), lots of hotels don't. Although those are good rates, anyway, for a 3* hotel. BUt you get what you pay for.

It's a pretty central location, not too far from the Cluny or Maubert metro stops.

I stayed there and really enjoyed it. I had a single and it was not that small and quite nice. More than adequate for me. My room was on the back side of the hotel with a little alleyway out the window so it was very quiet. My friend stayed in an end room on the top floor that was wonderful. Tiny little balcony and if you craned your neck out the window you could see the Pantheon. It had a nice large tub to soak in. Highly recommend that room.

Agree with Barb - rooms on Rue des Ecole can be really noisy, especially when the bars close and the kiddies are making their way home - if you are a light sleeper see if you can get one either on one of the top floors or not on the road.

Some good cafes in the area - we love La Petite Perigourdine next door, L'Autre Cafe down the road is also good. The pizza places and italian restaurants near the hotel we weren't overly impressed with. As an alternative to walking down to the Seine, there are a fair number of cafes and restaurants between the hotel and the Pantheon...

Sorry - L'Autre Bistro, not cafe...L'Autre Cafe is across the road from the other hotel we stay at in Paris...

I also liked La Petite Perigourdine. It is a short walk to rue Moufftard for lots of places to eat and shop.
