Want to know if your glasses have been replaced with clean ones (on more than 1 day stay)? A friend told us of making a tiny permanent marker mark ( you know it comes off with alcohol), so no 'biggie'and, nope, they were not replaced! He had been informed by the mgmt. the policy was to replace the glasses with clean ones daily.

Did anyone see the 20/20 where they compared toilet water to something, that sounded much less gross. I can't remember what it was, but the toilet came out to be much less bacteria infested. Anyone know what I'm talking about?

zwho -- that was the kitchen sink vs. the bathroom surfaces. Some guy counted the bacteria growing in the kitchen sink vs. a toilet, and believe it or not, the toilet was cleaner, and is in most households.

Fishee -- This sort of thing is why I have an immune system, and haven't died so far as a result of drinking water from foreign hotel bathroom sinks/glasses. Yes, it's disgusting, but really. I doubt this is as widespread as the gross-out-mongers would like to think.

It sounds like a half-decent urban legend in the making.

toilet water vs. water used by dentists (contaminated water lines)

GROSS!

Look, when the same sponge that cleans out the toilet is used minutes later to wipe your glass, that's just way beyond "robust".

Somebody else said something about electric kettles.
In the UK, we use boiling water to make tea.
All the kettle holds is water which is then boiled.
Boiling water kills germs!
I must go to low class hotels, because the ones I frequent usually have disposable wrapped plastic glasses.

I remember Dawn French and Jennifer Saunders doing a sketch where they were hotel chambermaids. The studio audience were laughing and making horrified noises at the same time.

At the end, they were very careful to fold the end of the lavatory paper.
