Hotel Room
 

Can anyone comment on which Hotel is better, the Scribe Paris, or Marriott Champs Elysees? Consider ease of getting there from airport, and proximity to all the lovely attractions, but also the comfort and qualithy of rooms. Also will be traveling by train when leaving, so proximity of that as well. Thank you so much for any input!

There are several train stations in Paris. Which one you leave from depends on your destination. Maybe you need to provide us with the locations of the hotels as well as where you're going next.

I will be leaving the city on the overnight train to Rome. One hotel is 70 Avenue des Champs Elysees in 08 and the other is 1 Rue Scribe in 09. We will be arriving via train from London.

The train from London goes into Gare de Nord. What station does your train leave from?

I personally dont like the Champs Elysees. I find its just a big busy, clogged shopping street with little charm so I wouldnt choose a hotel actually on that street. Not familiar with the one in the 9th.

Charm is important, as it is our first trip to Paris and I am not sure when we will be able to come back. Thank you for the input.

If "charm" is important, stay in the 5th or the 6th

Neither hotel is in a charming area. If you are taking the Artesia to Rome, I believe you'll depart from the Paris Bercy station. Since you arrive at Gare du Nord, it would be impossible to find a hotel situated with easy access to both stations. It doesn't matter, anyway - you can get to/from any train station with ease by public transportation or a taxi.

Can someone recommend a very nice hotel in the 5th or 6th?

There is a huge thread here called Paris Left Bank Hotels. If you do a search, you will get a lot of current recommendations.

With the good public transit system (or a cab), there is no need to stay near a train station. In the 6th/5th, the RER from the airport has stops in the area.

I agree to move away from the Champs.

You would probably get a larger volume of responses to your inquiry if you were to post in your subject line "Paris Hotel Rooms".

Glad to see you now realize that there is no need to stay near one of the train stations.

I will never understand why people don't think twice about long and expensive flights and train rides but then hesitate about a 10 minute taxi or transit to get from the train station area to a nicer part of town. Rant over.

The Hotel Lutetia is a traditional upscale hotel in the 6th. We have stayed a couple of times in the past and liked it - but the rooms vary considerably - so be sure you reserve one that meets your needs.

I would also agree that neither one of these hotels is remotely in a charming area. So if that is important, you shouldn't stay near the Champs-Elysees nor the Opera.

YOu might consider the 7th arrondisement, as well as the 5th or 6th (and at the level of hotel you want, there isn't any in a charming part of the 5th, there are hardly any 4* hotels in that quarter). But I guess that is subjective (what is a charming area).

Lots of nice hotels in the 6th. For the 7th, try Hotel du Cadran or Tourville.

Scribe is in the most central location in Paris, and an express bus goes from the airport virtually to Scribe's front door. The neighborhood isn't charming, but 2 steps from big department stores and the old Opera house.
