Is this the Sofitel? I have a friend who is staying there soon. Her concern is that it might be too far out.
However, since she needs to access her email she felt like she needed a more modern hotel.

Glassman, the Hotel Rive Gauche on rue des Saints Pères is the one we stayed at, if that's the one you're considering.
The location *is* great, a baguette's throw from the Seine and the Pont des Arts. However, the rue des Saints Pères is quite a busy street and, on our first night in the hotel, we had a street-side room and had to use earplugs. We actually liked the room itself better, since it had beamed ceilings, but after that first night we changed to a non-street-side room for more peace and quiet.
Both rooms we stayed in were fine, and clean, but fairly small and, aside from the beamed ceilings in the one room, not a tremendous amount of character or charm. There may be nicer (or worse) rooms; we only saw those two. Also, since we were there almost four years ago, it's possible the hotel has undergone a makeover since then.
One thing we really liked were the guys working the front desk. Very funny, friendly, and helpful.
We also had originally made reservations for two nights when we returned to Paris from Nice. But I managed to get a room at the Hotel du Lys (a place I'd always wanted to stay in) for those two nights and, with a week's notice, the folks at the Rive Gauche were nice enough to cancel our reservation without any penalty.
