Hotel Residence Henry Iv
 

We booked this hotel a few months ago. Its a 3 star in the latin quarter. Its 263 us dollars a night for a 4 person apartment. Is this a good deal or could i find better. We just want to stay in a nice hotel in good location. Should I see if I can do better by bidding 4 star on priceline?

I considered this hotel a few years ago, but didn't book it because a space opened up at another hotel that interested me.

I think that sounds like a decent price for four people. The problem with going with Priceline is that it may be tough to find a room for four. You might have to go two and two and you can't be sure that you'd wind up at the same hotel.

Also, most of the Priceline hotels are large and rather lacking in character. The locations tend not to be the best. There are a few exceptions to this rule; if you do a search on here for "Priceline Hotels Paris", you can read some firsthand experiences.

Perhaps more info would be helpful. Are the four persons two couples or two adults and two children? Are you looking for a place with cooking facilities or just a place to sleep? Residence Henri IV is nice but I'm not quite sure what you are looking for. ( I believe the apt has a bedroom and a fold out sofa) You will have to book two rooms if you go the Priceline route as they only guarantee a bed for two people.

We really dont need cooking facilities. Also with priceline when you bid, you can select 2 rooms. It gurantees you will get same hotel. We did this for london. So I would just plan on bidding for 2 rooms. What do you guys think? Think I could do better? Its 2 adults and 2 kids.

Have a look at the Hotel Cardinal Rive Gauche in the same area, at the metro stop Gobelins...I stayed there 2 years ago and I paid less than you are announcing in Hotel Residence Henri IV...I had really a good stay in this hotel, a nicely and romantic French decoration and a great location...not far away from the famous Rue Mouffetard...

Le Meridien Montparnasse. Has anyone stayed at that hotel. Its only 179 euros a night for 2 queen beds. IT seems perfect for us. I know its not a quaint little french hotel. We are spoiled and use to saying in nice, clean modern hiltons and the such in the USA. Is it in a good location? Also would it be good to stay. We are pick and mostly just want a decent clean and comfy hotel room. What do you guys think?

Yes, I stayed there with my son in a room with two twin beds. It was comfortably furnished, nicely decorated, recently renovated, and very pleasant. The bathroom looks beautiful and has really nice toiletries. And you get washcloths, which you don't typically get at 3* or less hotels. My only complaint about the bathroom is that the tub is a bit tall and deep, and the marble floors are slippery. But otherwise I thought it was nicer than the few 4* hotels I've stayed at in the US and Canada. It has great air conditioning if you are going at a time when that matters.

For location, you are close to four metro lines. You are also very close to the buses, which might be even more convenient with children, and you get a good view of the city. If you don't mind walking, it's probably about a 25-minute walk to Boulevard St.-Germain. Two supermarkets and a laundromat are reasonably close.

It's definitely clean and modern. If you're getting a two-queen room, I think you are almost certain to get a very nice one.

I can't say, because I don't know the Residence Henry IV at all. I think it depends what you value most in accommodation. Maybe figure out how you plan to spend your days, and figure out which location would work best with what you want.

let's see -- if I understand, you can get what you want at the Meridien for about 179 euro vs. 260 euro or so at the Residence Henri IV? You say you just want a clean, comfortable room, like modern standard hotels, and don't need cooking facilities?

Obviously, go with Meridien.

Actually I can meridian for 179 us dollars and 200 us dollars. The reason I am even asking is because isnt the meridian in not as good location? I dont really know. How are both hotels themselfves. The Henry looks nice but I really dont know.

Maybe I'm not sure what you are quoting on the price, you're only getting on eroom or two? If it's a total of only $179-200 US that is even cheaper and I sure would book that.

I stay around that area, there's nothing wrong with the location. It's a matter of opinion as to what better means. I prefer it to where the Residence Henri IV is, but it is closer to the Seine and Notre Dame if that's important to you. Some people who like to walk around an area with a lot of tourists would like the locaiton of Henri IV better as it is near a few heavy tourist areas and shopping streets. It's a much smaller hotel, of course, the MEridien is quite large. I think the Meridien is more convenient for metro connections.

It sounds like that amount of money isn't very important to you or you wouldn't be questioning this so much. If it's not, you will be able to feel more Parisian in your hotel, I suppose, and more like you are having a different adventure there. It's an older part of Paris so the nearby streets will look more quaint, etc., as well as the hotel.

It's hard to say as I can't get a feeling for how you really feel about a modern well-appointed hotel vs. an older, quainter one. I'm not saying the Henri IV is bad or run-down, I don't know (I've heard nice but maybe a little). Someone said it wasn't really four beds, but only one bed and a sofabed, is that true? If so, is that okay with your family? I'm not clear how big or old your kids are, if they are teens that might not work.

If I have to read a crystal ball I would bet you'd like the Meridien better given you talk about being spoiled by Hiltons, etc. and that you don't even care about cooking facilities (which I don't either in a short stay).

I am having trouble deciding also what we would be interested in. We would probably enjoy staying in a nice perisian style hotel. What I guess I am mostly trying to get at is, is the residence henri a nice hotel with nice rooms? or should I try to find maybe another quaint parasian hotel in a nice area also?

Message: The Residence Henry IV may do the trick. Our room had a tiny kitchen/bar, enough for 2 burners and a fridge and tiny sink. With kids, this would help you a lot in the morning. The room we had was a good size, with balcony, and a nice bathroom. Some have a livingroom with a sofabed. The price is is around 175-200 for a standard. Hotel is near the Pantheon, walkable to 2 metro stops. There are great pastry, cheese, and wine shops nearby and reasonably priced and untouristy restaurants.
