Hotel reservation in Strasbourg
Hello!
Anybody knows about "PAX HOTEL" in Strasbourg? We will be coming by TGV from Paris and won't have a car. Would like to stay in center of town not too far from the train station and near "Petite France". Any other suggestion? Thanks! Miche |
no, never heard of it. I stayed in the Hotel de l'Europe in the Petite France area which would be perfect, as it's about halfway between the train station and the cathedral. It's easy to walk to either. It's a 3* hotel, which is reasonable in Strasbourg, but could be more than you want if you want real budget.

by the way, I think you mean you are coming by train from Paris. There is no TGV from Paris to Strasbourg that I know of.

We stayed at the Comfort Inn in "Petit France". It was next to the river and had very large rooms. 2-3 blocks from the cathedral.

I would recommend Hotel Gutenberg. It's 2-stars, but very clean, well-maintained, quiet (despite its central location)and friendly staff. The location is superb, about 3 minutes walk from Cathedral.

Like Christina, I also stayed at the Hotel l'Europe, which I found to be a perfect location. It's right in Petite France, and a fairly easy walk to the train station. Also a nice walk to the cathedral & the museums. I loved Strasbourg!

We loved Strasbourg also. We stayed at the Hotel Cardinal de Rohan which is very close to the cathedral. We thought when we arrived, the bells ringing were going to be a problem, but this hotel is so well insulated and I believe with A/C that there was no problem at all with noise. The price was very reasonable and they were very helpful at reception.

Hi everybody,
Thanks so much for your suggestions. I will look at them very carefully and see which is best for our budget!. The hotels you suggest all seem to be very well situated, exactly in the area where we wish to stay. Last year, I received very useful advices on this forum. I was recommended a very nice hotel in Aix-en-Provence and we loved it. I would never have found it otherwise. Thanks again and please excuse my poor english! Lacks of practice! Miche |
Thank you Christina,
You're right... there is no TGV coming from Paris to Strasbourg! We'll have to take the regular old train, even if slower! Miche |
HI--another vote for the Rohan which we stayed at b/c of a recommendation from several people on this message board. Just be sure to request one of their larger outer rooms, if your budget allows, as they are *much* larger and more pleasant than the smaller, darker ones that face the central air shaft. It is a little too far to walk there from the train, but the taxi was reasonable. And the train from Paris was only ~4 hrs.

I second the recommendation for the Hotel Gutenberg. I was there three weeks ago and had a really great experience. Very nice hotel staff, good price, and excellent location.

What about Hotel le 21?

Hello again!
Just came back from 18 lovely days in France. Six days in Strasbourg: Hotel Gutenberg was excellent. Very quiet, as PiscesAK said on this forum, despite its central location. Also found very friendly staff. Close enough to the Cathedral, the location is perfect. Good quality/price. Would highly recommend this hotel. Strasbourg is a lovely city. We walked 8 to 10 kilometers a day despite 30 to 35 heat! (The tires of the tram melted on tracks the day we left... saw that on tv in Paris!) Only a small problem: bikers! You have to watch yourself all the time if you don't want to be bumped. They drive "fast" everywhere: on sidewalks, pedestrian streets... all over the places! We were in Strasbourg on June 21, "Fête de la musique". Crowdy because of the musicians and bands on every street corner, but very alive and fun... and warm!!! Loved it. To "sfowler": I don't know about Hotel le 21 and did'nt see it either. Sorry! |
Hi,
For those of you that visited Strasbourg recently, any recommendations on good restaurants in the La Petite and the Cathedral area. thanks, Ramesh |
Hello Ramesh,
Many good restaurants in Strasbourg. The one we loved best was "Le Mandarin", 7 rue du Vieux Marché-aux-poissons (near "l'ancienne douane"). We loved it so much that we went twice! If you like chinese food, that's the place! They also serve sea food and "canard pékinois". Helpings are very generous. I ordered an "entrée" before the main course and it was way too much. I would say that Le Mandarin serves the best chinese food I ever ate! Another restaurant we liked was "Le Gutenberg", 8 Place Gutenberg (not far from the cathedral). Bon voyage! Miche |
Hi Miche,
Thanks for the suggestions. Will try them out. Ramesh |
