Hotel Recs Please -- Sintra and Lisbon
Hello everyone,
Planning on spending around three days in the Lisbon area, basing myself in Sintra. Does anyone have any recommendations for places to stay ($100-$150 per night) that are less on the spiffy and modern side and more on the historical/cultural side?
And also need a place in Lisbon for my last night of the trip. Does anyone have any recommendations for an easily accessible by car hotel that will make for both an easy early-morning departure to the airport and a fun last night in the city?
Thank you in advance. Past postings have already proven to be extremely helpful in the planning of my trip.
Best,
Adam

I don't know about Sintra, but I just came back from staying at VIP Eden on Restauradoros. I booked through bookings.nl .
It's a nice hotel, but I don't know about car accessibility. Downtown Lisbon is probably about 20 minutes away from the airport.
I've seen good reviews for Borges. It's probably cheaper, and I walked past it a few times. The location is even better, I think. It's located right next to one entrance/exit of the Baixa-Chiado Metro stop on the blue line.
But once you figure out Lisbon, you can walk to Borges from VIP Eden in less than ten minutes if you're a fast walker.

We just returned from Portugal where we made Sintra our base. We found an Internet deal for the Tivoli Sintra for 70 Euro which included breakfast brought to your room (for an extra 2.5 Euro). Carpet a bit worn ,but this room was on the 8th floor with a balcony and was fairly large with a very nice bathroom. Staff was extremely friendly and helpful. There are two Tivoli hotels in Sintra, one in a castle about a mile from the other one and about 5 times as expensive. We preferred staying in Sintra than Lisbon and we rented a car to visit the beaches north of Sintra.

We were pleased with Casa Miradouro. I didn't get a chance to see many other rooms, but ours was quite large with a shower only bathroom. There is no TV or telephone in the room, if that is important. Both are available in the sitting room on the main floor. Parking is on street. It's possible to walk to some restaurants (although forever uphill and you had to step out of the way for cars to pass!) Frederic, the proprietor, was very helpful with information and suggestions as this was our first time and our first stop in Portugal. He also picked us up at the airport for an additional fee. The train from Sintra to Lisbon is very easy--although you will want a taxi from the Sintra train station to Casa Miradouro.
