Hotel recommendations under $200 in Rome for 1 person
My brother will be traveling solo in Rome for his first time. This will be his first time to Europe. My husband and I visited Rome last summer for a couple of days, so we can give him a few suggestions.
He really wants a hotel that is under $200. Can you recommend one that you have stayed in that you thought was acceptable? I don’t think he will be wanting to stay in a hostel. He will be there in mid-March 2026 for 4-5 days. Also, if there are good restaurants or fun places to go at night you would recommend, that would be great. He likes good beer and wine. He and his girlfriend broke up not too long ago. |
Go to booking.com and put in his dates to see what is available, especially on such short notice.

Thank you - we've already done that. There's many, many availabilities due to it being low season. Just looking for personal recommendations. Thank you!

Is that US$200? Or some other kind of dollars? Might be helpful to clarify to get better responses. I actually think you’ll get more accurate assessments of hotels from the people who have stayed there, which means there are heaps of reviews on sites like booking.com. They are all personal experience and a lot more people’s views than you will find here. That’s not to say you won’t get useful answers on fodors but the responses will be a narrower audience.

If all you're doing is sleeping they're all acceptable.
Check location. There may be red flags in the reviews but in general if all you're doing is sleeping it's price and location. Prices post Covid really soared. Last year the Jubilee didn't help. |
Testaccio is one of the best areas in Rome if you’re looking for a more local vibe at a competitive price. Accommodation here is generally more affordable than in the historic center or around the major tourist sights, while still being very well connected by public transportation. It’s also the neighborhood where many Romans actually go out to eat, so you’re surrounded by authentic trattorias, wine bars, and casual restaurants instead of tourist traps.
I really like Hotel Santa Prisca in this neighborhood. The rooms offer a good level of comfort at an affordable price. |
