Hotel Recommendations in Montpellier

I will be spending a night in Montpellier to meet up with some friends before going into the Cevennes. Can anyone recommend a hotel? I want to stay in the city center, because I need to pick up a car at the railway station.

Thanks much.

What are you willing to pay?

I highly recommend Hotel Royal where I stayed a few years ago. It is only about 1-2 short blocks from the rail station and then only a short distance to the main place (Comedie) where all the action is. YOu can walk to all the important things, and easily walk to/from the station. In fact, that's what I was doing as I picked up my rental car there upon leaving town.

Christina,

Reasonable. The current rates are 70-105 euros for 2 people. I like the 70 euro part, the 105 euros is getting a bit steep. Convenience is excellent, and that is worth some amount of money.

Thanks for your response.

It's a nice place, you can't beat the location. But there are some cheaper places nearby, I think, I sort of remember one right across the street.

I think this is the one I was thinking of, it's across the street and only a 2*, rates more like 47-60 euro

But I don't know what it's like on the inside.

We stayed in the Ibis Hotel last year - very convenient, fairly basic; we didn't appreciate the frosted glass screen between bathroom & bedroom . . . complete lack of privacy was our only complaint!
The Mercure was right next door - a bit more expensive, but probably worth it. Both are typical international hotels; probably better to go for something independent if you want more atmosphere. Di

I'm booked into the Hotel d'Angleterre for one night next month. I spent a few hours searching for the best location, rate, etc. It came up as the best value in my research but I can't say anything more until after my stay. :)

I guess you can report what it's like. The Ibis is a fallback, but it's not really that close to the train station, I think most people would not want to walk that distance with luggage.

Thank you all very much. I'm sure one of these will do. Fife

Christina,

The Hotel d'Angleterre turned out to be satisfactory. Thanks for helping.
