Hotel recommendations in Koln and Garmish

We will be staying for 2 days in Koln and 2 days in Garmisch while on a 2 1/2 week trip to Germany from november 22 thgouth December 9th. We would prefer to only pay around $75 or less per night including breakfast. They will be 4 adult travelling.

Any suggestions for hotels in either town? Are there any benefits to booking this far in advance?

I stayed at the following hotel in Cologne:

www.im-kupferkessel.de

It was nice. It was nicely located and the manager was great! With the dollar moving around I don't know what the final price will be.The price for a double is 74E...a suggestion maybe staying outside in a smaller village would be less expensive.

GARMISCH: Check out Hotel Hilleprandt. Rooms 1 or 2 are downstairs. We have stayed there a few times. They have a website if you do a search.

We stayed at the Gasthof Fraudorfer. It was a pleasant place, and there was a Volksabend in the restaurant in the evenings with music and entertainment.

I would absolutely book now for your stay in Koln. With the Christmas Markets in full swing at that time, it may be difficult to find a budget hotel there, especially with the exchange rates. I booked our hotel for that time (end of November) back in June.I assume the 4 adults will be in two seperate rooms? Perhaps check a hostel website, or look for apartments to rent. Often times you can rent them for 2-3 nights.
