Hotel Recommendations in Honfleur
We will be staying in Honfleur for a few days in May and would like some recommendations for a nice hotel. We will have a rental car and would also appreciate some suggestions for day trips from Honfleur (quaint villages...). Thanks.

We stayed at Hotel l'Ecrin in Honfleur in September. This was our favorite hotel of our whole trip in France and Italy. Our large double room was covered in fabric decorated with roses and had a beamed ceiling. It was absolutely charming.I think it cost around $100- 120 a night. It is listed in Karen Brown's- see her website. Actually the hotel has a website, too , where you can see a picture of the house and grounds. It is in walking distance of the historical district. You will like Honfleur.

Three years ago we had tried to book the l'Ecrin, but it was fully booked for our time months ahead. Instead we booked and stayed at Hotel Lechat right on the main town square. It too was a lovely hotel, dripping with windowed flower boxes, old beamed rooms and pretty toile fabrics. It was a bit noisy the morning the market started setting up right outside, and although they had parking about two blocks away, it was a little more difficult for coming and going, but we'd stay there again -- we do love being in the "center of things".
For day trips, of course drive up along the coast at Etretat. People rave about the charm of Pont-Audemer, but we found it nothing compared to Honfleur. Of course I love Mont St. Michel, but only if I can stay over night after the mobs of day trippers leave. And you will be surprisingly close to Giverny,if you haven't been there, especially if you take the highway part way. Although big, I also still love Rouen. We happened upon a wonderful little town which I did not record, but looking at the map now, think it must have been Cormeilles almost due south of Honfleur, slightly East. Take some back roads in that area and just explore, you'll have a wonderful time.

Thank you for your responses and suggestions. I read about Hotel L'Ecrin and now I am sure I want to stay there. Hopefully, I will be able to get reservations. If not there, we will try the Lechat. Thanks!

Deena,
you must consider a lovely small hotel at Pennedepie, 5 miles south of Honfleur - Hotel Le Romantica -. It is a logis, a small hotel managed by the family who owns it.
It has a good restaurant with regional cuisine, 2 pools (in and outside),etc. We had a good room with a veranda with a beautiful view of the Seine river estuary and the city of Le Havre.
We paid only F370 (= US$60).
It is affiliated to Logis de France and they have a website: www.logis-de-france.fr
Enjoy it, Ismael
