Hotel recommendations for Vernazza

I'm looking for suggestions for our stay in CT, hopefully Vernazza, but maybe in Manarola.

I was in the CT in 1999 and stayed in Manarola at the Hotel Marina Piccola and absolutely loved it. We walked to the different villages and they all are charming and have different things to offer, but if (I mean when) I go back I plan to stay at the Marina Piccola again. We had breakfast and dinner (half board) at the hotel and the food was great. Lucky you!

Albergo Barbara is a lovely place, right on the Main Square in Vernazza. It is a small place with about 8 rooms, with some overlooking the ocean. The owners are great, fluent English. The place was absolutely spotless and was very convenient to all restaurants, shopping and other activities. I highly recommend.

Help me understand the need or lack of need for a/c in Vernazza in June/July. La Mala, Albergo Barbara, ca d'Andrean, Trattoria Gianni franzi were a few of the locations we were considering.

Ok, we were there last July in Vernazza and I am from a hot part of Australia and I must say I feel the heat. We booked all accommodation throughout Italy with air-con being close to the first priority.

I say yes, you do need air-con at that time of year. La Mala is outstanding but quite pricey. Gianni Franzi's rooms get good reviews as does the Albergo Barbara, which has great water views. I'm not sure if the Barbara or Franzi rooms are air-conditioned. Maria Cappellini's rooms also get great reviews over on Tripadvisor.

Stay away from anything near the station. We stayed at Eva's Rooms and were so disappointed, the air-con was fantastic but the noise from the train was unbearable.

Passenger trains by day and freight trains by night that shook the room!!

Gianni Franzi has a lovely restaurant with views of the water and wwe found the food lovely and well-priced.

Also, try the belforte restaurant and Il Pirata. Bar Ananasso right on the water is lovely for a late afternoon aperitivo watching the sunset.

Also, you MUST get a pesto pizza, its to doe for. Baja Saracena is another nice spot for lunch and there is the little pizza place right there as well!

Vernazza is my favourite out of all the villages.

Good Luck with accommodation.

We stayed at Albergo Barbara in Vernazza last year and it was a wonderful experience. The owners are friendly, speak fluent English, and the place is spotless. Rooms are very comfortable. You can see pictures on their website...www.albergobarbara.it/. We would not hesitate to stay there again.
