I can assist you with the Sorrento hotel recommendation (I stayed there Sept 2004 - 4 months ago):
Our lodging was at the Hotel Lorelei e Londres, Via Califano, 12 (Tel 011.39.081.807-3187/Fax 011.39.081.532.9001) and it was a perfect choice. From the Circumvesuviana train station in Sorrento, you can take a taxi to the hotel and the cost is 12 euros. However, it is about a 10-12 minute walk otherwise. The Lorelei e Londres is very conveniently located in Sorrento (a 10-12 min walk from the station and town) and its seaside perch above the Marina Grande offers breathtaking views of the coastline below. Our double room with sea view, complete with a walkout terrace that overlooked lemon groves, the Bay of Naples, Mt. Vesuvius, etc. included breakfast, cost 96,00 euros. I would stay there again any day. The hotel has a restaurant on-site that serves delicious meals that are then conveniently billed to your room. The Hotel Lorelei has been compared to an aging dowager - once very elegant and refined - now a bit old around the edges. I feel that just adds to the charm of the place. It's a fantastic value for a seaside hotel with views that can't be beat!

If you are driving, Il Perlo Panorama might be the thing for you above Bellagio. A view from its terrace is the first photo of Lake Como in my pictures:

hi realtorseena: to answer your questions re: the Hotel Lorelei e Londres....indeed it is an older property but I (and many others) believe that just adds to the charm of the place. It is not a luxury hotel nor a brand-new Marriott or Hilton, it is an unique, family-owned property that has retained its homey feel, yet has excellent seaview rooms with unbelievable Amalfi Coast prices (people staying at the adjacent hotels are paying 2x if not 3x the price for the same view!). I consider the Hotel Lorelei my own little find, but have discovered many others who have stayed there and loved it too. (The hotel seems to be the choice of many Brits who stay there - much more so than Americans). The Lorelei e Londres has simple but nicely furnished, comfortable, large, bright rooms with bathrooms (toilet, sink, showers in all). The rooms facing the street (Via Califano) are cheaper. The hotel has two floors with staircase access. There are 15 rooms w/ sea views, 8 of those rooms have walk-out terraces/balconies. Rooms #14 (corner), 12, 13 & 11 are the best rooms, fronting the Bay of Naples and overlooking the lemon grove garden below. They have central heating, fabulous views from their own garden/terrace restaurant (meals are added to your hotel tab), elevator to private beach, bar, free parking, etc. The Lorelei et Londres is owned/managed by Giuseppina Ereolan who also owns the Hotel Mignon. The hotel is located high on the cliffs above Sorrento's Marina Grande, on the eastern edge of town. From the Circumvesuviana train station, walk down the stairs to Corso Italia, turn right on Corso Italia, an immediate left at the gas station onto Via Capasso, which becomes Via Califano, hotel will be on your right side. A taxi from the Circumvesuviana train station costs 12 euros and takes 5 minutes to get there. (Note: the hotel is closed Nov-March).
There is no need to take a taxi to the center of town. I stayed there with my 4 year old child 4 months ago and we walked everywhere. It takes about 10-12 mins to walk to the center of town, Piazza Tasso, and the shopping/restaurant areas. I loved the fact that it was not in the middle of all the shopping and restaurant tourist traffic so was a quieter property, yet within easy access to everything. We also walked down the hill to the ferry boat docks to take daily ferries to Amalfi, Positano, etc. There is an elevator to the beach that you can take (as a shortcut) to make it an even faster trip.

Hotel Minerva in sorrento has fantastic views from the wonderful patio where they serve the free breakfast buffet. Good prices too, I think our room was around 150 euros for a balcony with sea view last June in high season. Rooms are comfortable. Get a room on the upper floor as the lower floor hall smelled musty. Our rooms were on the upper floor. We were very pleased with this hotel. They even had a triple room for 100 euros, but my son and daughters only stayed in it for 1 night because it's kind of an odd room with an old no-longer used kitchen in the room and at the time there was a paint smell. but they moved my kids the next night at our request. No sidewalk in front of the hotel but we didn't have time to go for a walk anyway as we had 2 day-tours scheduled.

There are several ferries and hydrofoil boats running daily from Naples' Molo Beverello port to Sorrento. You can get down to the port from the Naples train station via the #1 bus that stops outside in the Piazza Garibaldi. Get off at the Piazza Municipio, the port is about 100 yards away in front of you. Alternatively, you could always take a taxi from the Naples airport directly to the port as well.

In Bellagio, we really enjoyed our stay at the Hotel Belvedere. It was Fodorites who led us there. We payed 177 Euros for a nice room with a view and small balcony. We really liked it. It was a special occasion for us, and we were very happy with the hotel and room. Loved Bellagio.
