Hotel recommendations

Am making a first-time visit to Italy with wife and daughter in June'03. Have done some researching of potential hotels in the following cities but would appreciate any recomendations. Am looking for moderately-priced, clean places..(3-star-type) in Rome, Veniece, Siena and Florence. Thanks

Good morning, Joe E.
Have used the following over the years,
some snce the early 80's.
Rome - Internazionale, via Sistina
at the top of the Spanish Steps and within walking distance of most other than the Vatican.
Florence - Corona d;Italia, close to
the SMNovella station, near Mercate \
Centrale, just west and north of the
Duomo, in busy area for ristorantes and
shops.
Venice - Either the Ala or Do Pozzi
these located about two blocks west of
the Pza S. Marco, plenty of ristorantes
and shops around.
Have not stayed in Siena, have always used it as a day trip out of Florence
akong with San Gimigiano...
Richad of LaGrange Park, Il..

In Rome, check out Due Torri and in Venice, check out La Calcina. Have stayed happily in both, as suggested by travelers on this board. Book early as they both sell out fast.

I have not personally found the ideal MODERATELY priced hotel in any of these cities. but I folloe enough messages on this forum, to suggest that these might fiut your criteria - - and you CAN find perosnal reports here on all three of these:

For Rome, search "Smeraldo"

For Florence "Beacci" (for Beacci Tornabuoni)

and for Venice, "Maravege" (the complete name is several words, and I don't remember precisely).

Last of all, I can strongly recommend www.venere.com for all four of your cities. with this much lead time, you can afford to ask that hotels send you brochures by mail - - and I find that still a useful thing.

Best wishes,

Rex
