Hotel Recommendation Nice, France

Hello Fodorites,

Now that I booked my flights and hotel to the Luberon area I am wondering if you have any recommendations please for a hotel in Nice. We are going to spend one night in Nice before leaving the next day around noon to return to NY. We will have a car and can either return the car to the airport and cab it to the hotel or keep the car if the hotel has parking and then drive ourselves back to the airport in the morning. I guess our budget for the night would be no more than $300 max and I have no idea how far the airport is from the hotel -- especially since I don't know where the hotel will be. I guess for the one night we would like to stay near the promenade but I'm open to suggestions. We have been to Nice for a stop over once before. Any "to do" or "to eat" tips are also welcome!

Thank you.

We used to go to Nice every year, and always stayed at Hotel Westminster on The Promenade des Anglais. It's an old-school, traditional hotel in a great location for exploring Nice. Some of the rooms have tiny terraces overlooking the street and the sea.

The airport is a quick ten minute drive from Hotel Westminster. Cabs to and from the airport were pretty cheap.

Look at the Hotel Negresco, but it may be beyond your budget.

The best hotel in Nice is La Perouse.

The Hotel Suisse is next door.

Both hotels are "under" the Colline du Château.

The Negresco is the grande dame of the Promenade des Anglais.

Le Méridien is another reliable hotel on the Promenade des Anglais.

It has been about 15 years since we visited Nice and I think this is the hotel we stayed at (it was recommended in Karen Brown's travel books). It was not right in the main area of town and up a hill with a very narrow road. But it was very charming and different.

Many thanks for the great suggestions.

The rooms at La Perouse that have views of the Promenade des Anglais are amazing, you see the entire sweep of the promenade as well as flights in and out of the airport.

It's walking distance to the old town, actually right on the edge. I remember a near by parking garage where I think the hotel had spaces (for a fee) but I would drop the car off before going to the hotel.

Soecial treat for a last night but not far off your budget depending on timing of trip.
