Hotel recommendation in London?
 

Hi all,
I am looking for a reasonably priced hotel in London (around $75 US). What are the hots spots to stay in London? What areas? e.g. Mayfair, Notting Hill, etc. What are the most centrally located to attractions and shopping? Any specific recommendations would be great too. Thank you!

Cordova House Hotel - it's a couple of blocks from Paddington Station - it's about 45-50 pounds.

Even with Priceline that is a hard price to meet, particularly if you want a central area. South Kensington is a great location.

Hot spots to stay for $75?? Do you mean per hour?

I think that price can be met if you are willing to stay in a somewhat less central location. For example, I had a Priceline bid for $55 (approx.) last year which won the Comfort Inn Vauxhall. This is a nice, relatively new hotel which is about 1.5 miles from Victoria Station. There are two buses in front which go straight to Trafalgar Square and Westminster Abbey, and the hotel is about 400m from a tube stop. No guarantees of what you could get it for this year, of course.

But I'd suggest upping your budget (if possible) and bidding for a 4* hotel in Kensington on Priceline.

Other suggested budget solutions that people have - stay in a far-out location in a B&B, look for shared-bath accommodation near Paddington, stay in a hostel.

Don't be too hard on Mclaurie who is trying to tell you that staying in a London "hotspot" or an area "most centrally located to attractions and shopping" is going to cost a lot more than you are apparently willing to pay. London has to be one of THE most expensive cities, hotel-wise, in Europe.

I think the suggestion of using Priceline is one good one or you could, possibly, revise your budget expectations upward.

A little research ahead of time would have revealed this information to you but I suppose posting here is one way of doing that research.

Better to have any answers than none at all.

Comfort Inn appears to be reasonably priced. Can anyone recommend anyone of the following any more highly than the others:

Comfort Inn Victoria
Comfort Inn Buckingham Palace
Comfort Inn Hyde Park
Comfort Inn Bayswater

I just went to the Comfort Inn website to see if I'd missed something. Do you realize their prices (75-120) are in British Pounds, not US dollars. So their least expensive rooms are about $125 dollars, considerably more than you stated you wanted to pay in your original post.

You are missing something. I said I got the $55/night rate through Priceline. The web site always features rates that are two or three times as high. In London you will never get any rate that is anywhere close anywhere else to what you can get with Priceline (with rare exceptions).

We were just in London in October and stayed at the Thistle Trafalgar Square.
Very good location- near Leister Square,
Soho,Theatre, Covent Garden. We were off on a narrow side street with a little breakfast place,7/11 type of place to buy water or whatever in a hurry. It is listed as a 4* but frankly it is fine but nothing like a 4* in America. $ 90.00 a night.
The room was clean, the hotel offered free breakfast with the room which was
ok. The staff was very accomodating really. We walked everywhere. Like a Ramada inn- a chain hotel- you could open the windows. Good Luck and write back and let us know what you have decided. natjgc

cdleebunny - did you check that thread I posted above. I really got a lot of very thoughtful answers and several suggestions that were worth following up on. I've booked myself into the Craven Gardens in Bayswater but since I haven't stayed there yet I can't really say how it is, looks pretty good. But there were several others mentioned that I would consider - the Cordova House that radiofanatic mentions and also the Cardiff House, and a few others. Don't give up.
