Hotel Recommendation for Lyon, France

I need to spend one night in Lyon in June,en route to Provence. Can anyone recommend something quaint or worthwhile, or at least comfortable and not too expensive?

Either Hotel La Residence or Hotel Bayard is good also.

This advice is only if you're driving. If you're not then never mind.

When I need a stopover between destinations I usually look at staying away from a major, metropolitan area. Lyon is France's second largest city and certainly is a blast, I was there in May. But why do you want to add the aggravation of driving into one night and out of the next morning a major European city?

When I do this I use a site like www.chateauxhotels.com and find a very nice property in a remote little town. Your euro will go a lot farther and you can sometimes stay at a stunning property for less than a 3* in Paris. For the convenience I also pick one with a restaurant. I will warn you though, I've spent more for dinner for two at properties like this than I have for the room itself: a price I'm willing to pay. :-)

thank you, indytravel and others who answered. Yes, indy, I will be traveling by car and realized I don't want to do a stopover in downtown Lyon after all. Based on advice in other message threads on this board I booked something through Logis de France (a country property) that I hope will be OK. It is near the autoroute, anyway!

But next time I go to Lyon itself for a few days, I will check out the Hotel Residence as it seems to be recommended repeatedly.

thanks again!
