We also like the Rembrandt and its location--stayed there several times. Our room at the Rembrandt last October had been completely redone--everything new with nice marble bathroom. Comfortable new large bed and the room was large as well. Spotless in every way. They are redoing the hotel one floor at a time so maybe the unhappy poster had an older room. We had a deal through BA along with our plane tics and the hotel was about 90 BP.The breakfast is very nice and the fitness center with pool is just next door. We feel comfortable with the area and V&A is just accross the street.

glad to hear about changes at Rembrandt- we stayed there in 2001.
The location IS great. |
The Henley House Hotel- booked it thru londontown.com
henleyhousehotel.com We booked it for 4 nights at $140 US dollars in March. Clean rooms, one block from Earls Court Tube Station, quiet street, friendly staff. |
My daughter and I jsut stayed at the Sanctuary House Hotel - beautiful, and jsut 1 block from Westminister Abbey- a great hotel for about 140 pounds per night for the 2 of us, included breakfast at the pub downstairs, beautiful! - check them out at TripAdvisors-all good reviews. Also, I wrote to the hotel management and mentioned that the dollar was down, etc, and after a few emails, we got the rate reduced from 190 pounds to 140 and an upgrade on the room and the full English breakfast, rather than just a continental, was thrown in - try it.
Good luck Leslie |
Wow! Thanks so much to each and everyone for all your wonderful suggestions. I can't wait to keep researching!!!

Another possibility for lower rate at the Sanctuary House: They recently had a building nearby collapse and their entrance is partially blocked (no damage at all to the hotel, but the scaffolding for neighboring building makes getting into the hotel a bit inconvenient). This is a very minor thing, actually, but might make for a "bargaining chip" with the management. Business may be down and they may be willing to make a deal.
It's a great hotel - even at full price! Good Luck. |
Why pay more than you have to? Priceline works great for London. Read how to do it on biddingfortravel.com.

Haven't stayed there myself, but on the basis of favourable reviews and reasonable tariffs for a handy location (esp pre the Eurostar terminal's move in November) check out Premier Travel Inns' London County Hall property on the south side of the river. |
We just left City Inn Westminster...We got a very good rate (less than 300. USD per night) which included breakfast. It was a 7-10 minute easy walk to Pimlico Metro Station.
It is a delightful hotel! I booked through Londontown.com It is in walking distance to Westminster Abbey and the London Eye. |
I've always had good luck booking through Londontown.com, too.
We've stayed several times at the Rembrandt and enjoyed the location, rooms and service. Several good restaurants in a short walking distance. Another good find on LT was the Millennium Bailey's on Gloucester Rd. You have about 10 steps to get to the metro and all kinds of shops and cafes nearby. We've stayed there the last 5 times we were in London. If they have a Club Room at a good price, go for it. We were lucky enough to be upgraded the last 2 times we stayed there. |
Yes, the Millenium Baileys comes up fairly well in reviews - accessibility to tube and Heathrow, the cafes and shops nearby, and some reasonable size rooms at 'reasonable' London prices it appears. Haven't stayed there, but it's on my list along with the Premier County Hall. |
Thanks so much to the people who recommended Londontown.com.
I was able to get a much lower rate for the hotel I wanted. By the way, I am one more person who has had a very good experience with JuryDoyle hotels. We stayed at the one on Welback Street, which has an amazing health club and pool. It's close to Oxford St. and Selfridges - a convenient location. |
