Hotel Rates in Italy mid-Aug

Hello Fodorites!
2 questions -
1) I was looking up hotels and hostels in Florence, Venice and Cinque Terre. The hostel prices are listed per person while the private hotel room prices are listed per room.
This is possibly a newbie question, but are too people allowed to stay in a single room?

Are there any hostels or hotels within Cinque Terre that are very cheap? IŽd love something for under 20 Euro, but then IŽd be dreaming. Anything ultra-affordable within the villages?
Thanks!

no, that's why it is called "single".

No, you can't put two people in a single room. Many times the bed (a twin or narrower) will take up the entire room as rooms are tiny in the cities.

No - a single room will have one twin bed (lke you used as a child) and the room is likely very litte bigger. For 2 people yuo need a double (double bed)or twin (2 twin beds) room.

You may be able to find a room in someone's home in the CT for less money than a hotel or B&B, but I have never seen any accomodation for 20 € or even 20 more than that. Are you speaking per person?

At that budget you have to look at hostels, but even then you may have to hunt around a bit.

Hotel/B&B rooms are for a max number of people. Single room = one person. Double/twin = 2 people. Triple = 3 people.

You can't cram in extra people, no.
