Hotel question...first time to Paris!
 

My husband and will be staying in Paris for the first time in June for 4 nights. I am wondering if anyone has stayed in any of the following hotels and if they liked the location, decor and comfort of the rooms. Daughine St. Germain, Grand Hotel St. Michel, and Hotel Le Petit Paris. I am a little concerned as to whether the rooms in Le Petit Paris will feel edgy in design but would be interested to hear anyone's comments about the comfort level of the aesthetic of these places. I want to embrace my first experience of Paris and am hoping that the hotel will support the experience. These three hotels span three different sorts of styles. I would love to hear if people recommend any of these and/or if they recommend a different hotel that is comfortable and casually elegant. Thank you so much for your thoughts!

I definitely recommend you Le Petit Paris. It really reflects the charm of Paris through times.

Or if you still need to compare hotels, why not try some websites that recommend you some apartments in best situated in Paris that you can rent for a night or two or more, choose where you want and the style that pleases you most. Most of them includes a kitchen so you can save on food budget. Have fun. And Bonnes vacances a Paris

My wife and I stayed at the Grand Hotel St Michel in late June/early July 2009 and loved it. One of the attractions was the modern decor... I can't abide those brocade or fusty rose
decorated wallpaper hotel rooms you see so often.

The temperatures were in the mid 90s (35 C) all week and the air conditioning coped well. Being used to ice cold AC we find it's often lukewarm at best in Europe so we were glad to return to a really cool room at the end of each day!

The front desk was excellent. I am not a needy hotel guest... my interactions with the desk are usually just for check in and check out, but when we could not figure out how to turn on the shower and the desk clerk's instructions by phone weren't helping, he locked the front door of the hotel and raced up to the second floor to show us how to turn on the water. We felt kind of dumb but to be fair, pulling down on the hose to turn on the spray was rather counter-intuitive! LOL

We were also given a double upgrade at no charge... to a deluxe room. It was large enough to have a sofa as well as the queen sized bed. The fridge was handy and there was also a coffee maker... rare in Paris hotels I understand. Oddly though, the safe was not bolted down!

We always avoid Paris hotel breakfasts. They are invariably overpriced and more often than not in 'la cave'. I refuse to sit in a basement in Paris when I could be in a sidewalk cafe!
There are many of the latter in the area... dozens and dozens.
The one across from the hotel does a cheap breakfast.

We enjoyed the location. Just a 2 minute walk from the Luxembourg RER and the park of the same name. The Pantheon
and St Etienne du Mont (the steps from Midnight in Paris) are just around the corner, rue Mouffetard maybe 5 minutes away, and Place de la Sorbonne a few strides in the other direction.
There's a post office just along Rue Cujas with a convenient ATM.

Would we stay again? Yes!

I was thinking in order to have the "French experience" I should stay in a more Parisian hotel in terms of aesthetic but I don't feel too comfortable with busy wallpaper either. I know that Le Petit gets good reviews. Did anyone who stayed here feel overwhelmed by the bold and eclectic decor?

And Thank you for mentioning the steps from Midnight in Paris!!! I loved that movie and was wondering what those steps were called and where they were...that might just decide it for me!
