Hotel Prices...
These are the prices I found for the hotels. Are they reasonable and do they provide the right kind of value-for-money ?
Rosseli- CHF 250
Kindli- CHF 320
Florhof- CHF 320
Walhalla- CHF 200 (without breakfast)

Is there a way to negotiate discounts ? Do they have some sort of coupon system like they have in the US, wherein you get some discount if you present the coupon ?
|
Where are we talking about ?!
|
Hmmm: ZURICH!

PS: Damroo: What coupons are you talking about, please?
And this is for the room double, not per person. All places are nice and very centrally located. You can find cheaper, no problem.
City, Glockenhof, Engimatt (a Best Western) would only be three.
|
Ursula, these are the rates for a double room. What I want to find out is if these rates (which have been quoted to me) are high or okay for these four hotels.

Sometimes if you have membership to certain clubs (... like AAA membership) or if you ask for special deals, hotels would give you that... and that rate is lower than what is generally quoted (this happens in US)
|
Damroo: If you want to benefit from these coupons, you would have to choose a hotel which is part of an international chain such as Hilton, Marriott, Sheraton, Intercontinental. All of them are here in Zurich.
Pls note that especially the Kindli and the Florhof are quite upscale places. The Florhof is a romantic hotel and believe me, VERY nice. The Kindli is in the old part of the town and Laura Ashley style furnished. If Patrick was here, he would highly recommend it to you. I am sure.
The Rössli is an inside place for people in fashion business and quite hip.
So, demand makes the price, I guess.
Hello Ursula, let's send him to the Glockenhof.Or if he is young to the Hotel Basilea? They are both right in the center.
|
Mika, good suggestions. I recommended the Glockenhof to Kamal in another post. Basilea, yes. I do not like that street Zähringerstrasse), but well, the place is ok for one or two nights.
Damroo, check out the Glockenhof. In the middle of all. Nice backyard restaurant and opposite the Hiltl Vegi, very in-place for vegetarian food.

Mika, where do you live, in Zurich? It's terribly hot, isn't it? .. and as usual, when parties are on, weather changes. Just mention this because of the Zürifäscht. The fireworks will be great though. Don't you think so. Friday with pop, Saturday with classical music.
|
Damroo: Or the "Rütli", same street as the "Basilea" and about the same price.
|
To ursula: I,m from Schaffhausen, but I know Zürich and Berne Hotels quite well.My sister in Zürich is going. Why don't we "smelly Europeans" start a discussion about the fattest, queerest etc. tourists in Europe? Have you seen the discussion. If not read thru it.Pfui.
|
Mika. Yes, I did read *that* particular thread.
.. and what can I add? I guess, pfui, as well. :-(( But, you know, in some cultures, that particular smell is taxed as "sexy" or "attractive".
The worst for me was an Air France flight from Paris to Guadelope, French Antilles. I better do not say anything about.. nor the food. Just pfui, as well.
Hey, Schaffhausen, is a pretty town to live. I was there on business and have good memories, only that it was pouring while at the Rhine Falls. Stayed at the Hotel "Kronenhof" with view to the Munot. Very pretty.

Now, where is Damroo and is it a she or a he and how old? Hotel recommendations would be easier then.
|
I am a young person (less than 30) coming to Zurich with my spouse :-) That should make it easier to suggest between Rossli, Kindli and Florhof
|
Damroo hello!

I suggest the following:
1. Kindli (some 20 rooms)
2. Florhof (some 30 rooms)
3. Rössli (some 12 rooms)

Kindli and Florhof do work together, although they are run independently. If all of them should be fully booked, try the Glockenhof and .... of course, the Walhalla.

Good luck!
