I just returned from Prague last night. I had reserved a room at Hotel Josef but because of a problem withtheir smoke detectors they instead put me at Hotel Pariz (say Parische) for the beginning of my stay. It is a very beautiful art deco building. Elegant, charming, crispy clean bed linens, good service. I enjoyed it very much. Also enjoyed the rest of my stay at Hotel Josef which was a great contrast in style to the Pariz.Prague was much warmer than I anticipated.

Yeh, a reply! I went on Expedia to look at the photos for the Hotel Josef, too modern. I look forward to staying in a hotel with history, charm, character.Would you say the Hotel Paris falls in that category? Did you come across the K & K Hotel Central, Riverside, Constans or Grand Hotel Bohemia, can't decide area to stay in.

Yes the Hotel Pariz would fall into the historical category. My room was on the third floor which in Prague was five stories up. The little elevator had glass doors. As it passed from the first floor to the ground floor it passed by about 10 feet of stone. This hotel was built in the 20th century but probably on the foundation of another building.

The location is excellent for walking and there is a metro station right outside.

I live in a very old house and usually pick older hotels. The Hotel Josef was chosen to try something totally different and it was fun for that.

The Josef had a better breakfast than the Pariz but the breakfast at the Pariz was totally fine.

Pick a centrally located hotel - like the Pariz and you will be fine. There are many good choices and it is a very walkable city.

I stayed at the Marchello about 4 years ago and loved it! It was very central to the main square so on an evening lots of things were walking distance. The hotel itself was oldy worldy and could not say anything bad about it at all. It was a great place to stay!
