Hotel or B and B near John Ryland Library in Manchester , UK

A friend that we will be traveling with needs to spend a couple of days doing research at the John Ryland Library. Does anyone have a hotel or B and B to suggest- around 70 to 100 pounds? One within walking distance to the library would be good.

I am guessing that this is in a congested area- any suggestions about where to eat, etc.?

Thanks for your help.

The library is on Deansgate right in the City Centre. It is surrounded by places to eat and stay. If you prefer a hotel, then it depends on the date that you expect to be here. There are also many apartments that let on a nightly basis. B & B in a the city really doesn't exist. Your post doesn't make it clear if the room(s) is just for your friend or for two of you. That obviously has a bearing on cost.

Firstly try:

www.lastminute.com
www.laterooms.com

Both of these list hotels and apartments at less than the rack rate offered by hotels. The nearest hotels are listed with prices on this link:

Restaurants do of course depend on your taste, but Manchester has an enormous selection. Try these:

Cafe Istanbul Turkish and very good
Grill on the Alley Excellent British food
Chinatown for anything Chinese
El Rincon de Rafa Spanish Tapas and meals
Livebait Good Fish restaurant
Rajdoot Excellent Indian food

Hope this helps

By the way, if yo're planning to stay in the football season, hotels are very busy with people coming in to the city to watch their teams. Give me a clue on dates and I'll try and help. I forgot San Carlo--Italian at its best.

Thanks, Lifeman. It will just be our friend. He is doing research at the library for couple of days- Sept. 22-24. His g-uncle is the actor Robert Dolan and there is a lot of material about him at the library.

If he wants budget accommodation then I'd suggest the Travelodge on Great Ancoats Street. It's about a mile and a half to the Library- an interesting walk through the city centre or a reasonable taxi ride. There's a Jurys Inn near the Bridgwater Hall (music venue/concert hall)that is also quite reasonable rates and not too far to walk to the library.

Your dates are OK for football related hotel bookings, so no problem there. The Travelodge is a bit of a schlep to Deansgate, but Jury's is OK too. It's listed in the links above.

I don't see any point in incurring taxi fares if you can stay somewhere close at hand, especially if we get a bit of rain. He's aiming to be here on weekdays, so he should also be OK for restaurants on the Wednesday and Thursday evenings.
