Hotel or apartment suggestion in Barcelona

Hi, just planning a trip to Barcelona and Paris for mid september and I am looking for hotel or apartment rental options. Would you suggest the old town area or being by the beach in Barcelona. Would a hotel with a pool be ideal that time of year? I'm assuming it will still be quite warm?

This will be our first time there and I would love your thoughts. Thank you!

Yes, it will still be warm in Barcelona in mid-September and a pool is always nice at the end of a long day stomping around the streets.

As far as a place to stay, do you have a budget in mind?

@ Robert, we would love to stay under $400, less of course is more desirable!

I was going to suggest the Hotel 1898, but it would be beyond your budget. Another excellent NN property, the Hotel Jazz (www.hoteljazz.com) might be a better fit. It has a nice pool, is well located, and the price should be within your budget with rooms starting at €143/night in mid-September.

The weather will be warm, and so will the ocean water for swimming. You don't say how long you are staying - many apartments require a minimum of three nights. You should be able to find a nice apartment for two under 200 euros. El Born would be the most convenient to sights and street life, thus best for first-time visits; Barri Gotic is OK above Carrer de Ferran. By the beaches is less vibrant, except Barceloneta, which can be very noisy with partyers. We have used this agency in both Barcelona and Paris: www.likelivingthere.com. A little different from a booking site, as you can say what you want and they recommend apartments.

I will second the suggestion for an apartment from likelivingthere. I have just booked through them for September, and they have been very quick to respond to my emails, and most professional in their service. Di

I can recommend plain fantastic and tranquile Hotel Neri. Two minutes away from the cathedral and on small and secluded Plaza San Felipe Neri. Stayed here in May, by far our best hotel experience ever. http://www.hotelneri.com/en/

And the Barceloneta beach area and neighbourhood is great, cool and laid-back. About the Barceloneta district just inland from the beach: http://www.theguardian.com/travel/20...taurants-spain

Take a look at Hotel W here: http://www.booking.com/hotel/es/w-barcelona.en-gb.html

Try Airbnb - the choice is absolutely vast.

We had a 7th floor penthouse from that website with a terrace. There were huge picture windows that slid back to allow access to the terrace and although the apartment had aircon we never used it because the breeze did the trick.
