Hotel on Mont St. Michele

My husband and son are going in late March and would really like to stay on Mont St. Michele. Any suggestions as to which hotel? They won't mind stairs. Thanks!

We stayed at the "White Horse" translated something like Blanc Cheveaux? It is actually two hotels connected and just up from all of the hubba of the overpriced omelette place that everyone goes to. We loved being there after everyone left at night-the quiet, stars and the sound of the water while walking the ramparts was so special!

Here is a useful link to the tourism office because it separates lodging inside and outside the walls:

My sister stayed at the Mouton Blanc which gets good reviews on the tripadvisor. Remember to have them check tides and parking situations. :)

Thanks - I'll check those both out. And especially thanks for the link that will take me somewhere that will tell me whether the hotel is really on MSM, or actually on the mainland. That was driving me creazy!

We have stayed at Le Mouton Blanc several times and enjoyed our stay, though I found some of the rooms were starting to need a facelift. If it was the only room available i wouldn't have a problem staying here at all.

We much preferred out stay at auberge St.-Pierre and really like their special offer/demi-pension that includes dinner and bkf in the price. And the rooms were modern, comfortable and clean. Rooms either have a view of the Abbey/street side or the rampart/sea side. Le Mouton isn't in my Michelin Red Guide but the contact info for Auberge St. Pierre is: Fax 02 33 48 59 82

Both Hotels are steps from each other on the right side as you ascend the mont. We find for both hotels Faxes got much faster/better results when you decides to reserve a room. If you are staying at the hotels and states so when you enter the parking area, they will indicate the closer reserved place to park IF the set up is the same...it has been a couple of years now.

Sorry-maybe it was the Mouton Blanc..it has been a few years. I now remember that it was side by side to the Auberge St. Pierre. Both were nice and reasonably priced if I remember compared to others.

What is a mouton, I wonder. DH and Rob are not awake to ask - but I did figure out which hotel you meant dutyfree! They started looking at hotels tonight - but didn't get as far as MSM. I did forward all the suggestions to DH, and thanks!

A mouton is a sheep, which makes perfect sense, since salt-fed lamb is one of the culinary specialties of the area, and you can see herds of sheep all over the place. The fact that they feed in areas that have natural sea salt gives their flesh a special flavor that's wonderful.

Ah! that's the only thing about their trip that I am envious about - the food!
