Hotel needed in the 5th or 6th
 

Hello

Going to Paris 4/10/05 to 4/19 with the boyfriend. Have done some research and have narrowed down where we want to stay to either St. Germaine or Latin Quarter.

We want to spend roughly $100 USD to $120 USD a night. A balcony or terrace would be a major plus. Also we want a private bath.

We are in our early 30's and like a little bit of the nightlife and don't want anything too formal.

Something on a quaint tree lined street would be nice.

The Port Royal Hotel in the fifth would fit your budget and also the tree lined street. www.hotelportroyal.fr
I've not stayed there, but it got a very good write up in Conde Nast Travel last summer as a great value for the $$. It looks charming on the website.

I don't think you are going to find very many hotels on a "quaint tree-lined street" in the city-center. You can use the website below (www.pagesjaunes.fr) and see photos of the buildings and streets of specific addresses in Paris. (many pix were taken in winter so allow for a bit of gloom). Also note that your price range is a bit low to expect too much in amenities. You can get a clean, safe room for that, just don't expect "cocktails on the terrace" or lots of charm.

Mostly good comments on Tripadvisor; I stayed here in 2001. It is a decent budget option, but don't expect "fancy".

I didn't care for it but that's not to say you won't. Hotel Familia in the Latin Quarter will deliver the balcony for 110€. You can google it and get the website to take a look.

Your budget is a little bit unrealistic for Paris, especially for the neighborhoods you've chosen. Good luck!

Those are some good ideas. I also think your budget is probably unrealistic for what you want -- a room with balcony or terrace in an expensive area of Paris for $100-120. The Latin Qtr tends to be a little less expensive than St Germain, though.

Like most large urban cores, you don't tend to find trees lining small streets, there isn't the room for them. Trees tends to be on the larger avenues or boulevards, or in small squares or parks, rather than lining the smaller streets. You can have a quaint small street but I can't think of any of those lined with trees in that area, maybe someone else can.

I think the Hotel College de France near the Sorbonne might be an option, it's a convenient location, anyway, and on a side street and around 100 euro. It's on www.france-hotel-guide.com

There's a good list of budget hotels in Paris with pretty good descriptions on www.jack-travel.com, also (section on hotels of charm 110 euro or less), you might look at that or www.eurocheapo.com which also has good descriptions.

Without going back and looking, I believe a nice little hotel called "La Louisiane" is in the area you want, and is within your budget. It isn't anywhere near luxury but as I recall it was a good bargain with private bath in a good location.

Another choice I always like to recommend is located almost across the street from Musee d'Orsay. It's the Libertel Bellechasse, but it's a bit outside your budget. Good luck.

I stayed at the Hotel College in the Latin Quarter and it was lovely, small but quaint, and a great location. It also had a nice breakfast room for those delicious croissants and cafe creme in the mornings.

Not sure of current prices or about balconies, but do a search here or elsewhere for hotel Degres de Notre Dame.
Also, Home Latin which I know has at least some rooms with balconies.

Try the Hotel des Carmes on the rue des Carmes in the Latin Quarter. No balconies or terraces, but good rooms and very comfortable for a decent price (100 euros for a double). The street isn't tree-lined (I can't think of any that are in the Latin Quarter) but there's a good market a few steps away at Place Maubert and there are a lot of restaurants nearby. The Seine and Notre Dame are a short walk from the hotel.
