Hotel needed for Kenmare area
 

We are flying into Shannon airport and have a wedding in Kenmare (accommodations for 3 nights at a hotel but the hotel has no availability for the night we arriving). Does anyone have any suggestions for a nice place to stay for 1 night in June on our way to Kenmare or in the Kenmare vicinity for a family of 4 (14 & 19 year old) with a suggestions of things to do while we are there. We will proably need 2 rooms and would like to keep each room under $250. Thank you for your help.

Thank you for your suggestions but I was really looking for a suggestion of a town (with hotel and what there is to do and see there) somewhere between the Shannon airport and Kenmare for the first night stay. Do you feel that staying in Kenmare for 4 nights is what we should be doing?

Adare might work for your first night. Here's a quote from the Lonely Planet Ireland guidebook.

"Picturesque ruins have made Adare a tourist honeypot and the wedding capital of the west of Ireland. This charming village on the River Maigue lies 16km southwest of Limerick on the busy N21 and the only thing that spoils it all is the torrent of cars and lorries that rattle through relentlessly. Yet, in spite of the cars, Adare's remarkable medieval buildings are a delight. The nuptial magic lies in the photobackdrops and romance of handsome old churches. The main street is lined with thatched cottages that were created during the improving landlordship of the third earl of Dunraven in the 1820s. There's an interesting heritage exhibition, a pleasant riverside walk, and some fine restaurants and cheerful pubs to enhance all that medievalism."

The LP book says the big hotels are fairly expensive and gives this one example of a luxury-with-tradition hotel: Dunraven Arms (www.dunravenhotel.com).

It also lists these reasonable B&Bs: Riversdale, Elm House, and Curragh Lodge.

I passed through Adare twice. It is a cute town. For one night would be nice. Not too much to do there but is midway between shannon and Kenmare so it is a good place to stay. I had lunch twice at the Dunraven. It was nice. There is a fabulous castle (Adare Manor) you could stay at if you want to to treat yourself.

We spent the last night of our honeymoon in Adare. We had a flight out of shannon the next day. It worked out nicely.
Adare Manor is georgeous-I'm not sure if the rates are under 250$ but you may want to check into it. Also Adare Country house and Duhallow House may be worth checking out. Adare is a very cute town with some actualy thached roofed homes and businesses. There is an "Irish Village" that you can tour for a fee and some little shops and restaurants. If you want to treat yourself to a wonderful dinner-make reservations at the Wild Geese. There are also may B&B's.
