Hotel near Zurich Airport

Can anyone recommend a reasonable hotel/motel near the Zurich Airport. We will be flying back to USA on September 8, 2006 and would like to spend the last night of our trip near the airport for early morning flight. Thank you very much.

Hi, Erika.
I stayed at the Movenpick at the Zurich airport a few years ago. They have a free shuttle and are just a few minutes away from the airport. I found it very convenient and comfortable. You might check them out.
Have a great trip.

Hi Erika,

Because of the excellent public transportation in Switzerland and in Zurich, you can stay in a hotel near the main train station and be at the airport quickly (about 10 minutes) and easily (practically door to door service -- there's a train station in the airport's basement).

So you can expand your search to include the hotels in downtown Zurich. Some posters here have had good luck getting good deals through Priceline --

Good luck!

The Hilton is right across the road from the Mövenpick hotel and I think it's a bit more expensive. I've stayed at both places often and I would vote for the Mövenpick.

There's a swimming pool and they have a better selection of restuarants in the hotel. Plus, Mövenpick is the best ice cream I've found in Europe.

Another vote for Movenpick. Good rooms, good breakfast, free shuttle to airport.

Looking for something in a nearby town with historic center and a hotel in an historic building? I like the Zum Goldenen Kopf in Bulach. Bus or taxi to airport. The early express buses take 17 minutes (leave Bulach Untertor at 6:37 and 7:37, but there are lots more). Just a thought. The hotel has a website; I just don't have it handy. J.

If you are looking for inexpensive, the Ibis near Zurich Airport is only a few years old, clean, basic, and inexpensive for Zurich. Ibis is a chain in the Accor hotel groups.

We were bumped from our AA flight from Zurich two days in a row (we volunteered and received vouchers) in 2000. AA paid for our room at the Novotel near the Zurich Airport for two nights plus dinner and breakfast. Novotel is also a chain in the Accor hotel group. These rooms were bigger and nicer but they were free.

Both hotels have shuttles to the airport; both have paid parking if you have a rental car.

I stayed the last night at Movenpick and loved it! As it was a part of a tour, don't know how reasonable the rate is.

I walked in the room, and I thought, how come the housekeeping didn't turn the TV off? Turned out, the front desk put a greeting on, something like "Hello, Faina Again, hope you'll have a pleasant stay".

We had a "good bye" dinner there, the food was great, the wine was lousy :)

The room furnishing was very modern, nice view. Phones downstairs behind reception desk if you use a phone card.

My son had a one night layover in Zurich on his way home from Germany and on a fodorites suggestions stayed at the Hotel Adler - clean, nice rooms, accomodating staff, easy to get back to train and to walk city, you might want to check it out, the price also worked as reasonable for us.

Hi
We stayed at the Movenpick in Regansberg about 10km from the airport. Had a free shuttle. Best part was there was a shopping center next to it and we had a great salad bar lunch. Walked into town a few blocks and found a very good Italian Restaurant for supper. Shuttle took us to the Airport next morning in plenty of time. I will always stay at a Movenpick if one is in the area.

Hi
I'm sorry it's Regansdorf for the Movenpick. wrong country.

Hello Erika,

The Glattbrug area of Zurich is a mere 5 minute drive or shuttle ride to the airport. We have stayed there the past few years on our last night before the flight to USA. Each time we were able to go through Priceline and get a room at the Renaissance (4*) for around $75 plus about $10 in taxes and fees. A great deal. The hotel is very comfortable, and the complimentary shuttle to the airport is very convenient. The Priceline rate will not include breakfast, but you can easily get something at the airport food court before departing.

Others on this board like staying in Zurich proper, and they've also had luck with Priceline bidding.

We usually arrive at the hotel after dinner, so we are not at that point interested in going into the city one last time. We are exhausted at the end of a trip and just want to relax. But if you want to go out to dinner or take in the town for a walk by the river, perhaps staying in Zurich proper would be for you. Just depends.

There is another hotel practically across the street from the Renaissance. It's the Novotel, also on Priceline, just a different star category.

If you haven't looked already, you can find info out about the hotels in the area on biddingfortravel.com. Scroll down to Switzerland, click on Zurich, and you'll see what's out there, at least on Priceline. But for one night before a flight, it's a heck of a way to go! You won't beat the price anywhere, even at a 2* hotel.

Happy travels!
