Hotel near train station
I am looking for a nice hotel near the maestre train station , for one night. I am not so concerned about the price as much as cleanliness and safety. We want to be able to get into venice by vaporetto easily, as well as getting to the airport with ease the next day.

Do you have to stay in Mestre? You could just as easily get to the airport from Piazzale Roma http://www.atvo.it/images_doc/linee/...10.2013%29.pdf as from Mestre http://www.atvo.it/images_doc/linee/...18.05.2013.pdf.

If it were me, I would go to www.bookings.nl or www.venere.com , put in your date, then zoom in on the map to see what is right by the station -- you can hover the mouse over different properties to see price and the all-important user reviews. Then balance distance vs. price vs. rating. Also, check back about 3 weeks then 10 days before your trip (before the cancellation deadline) to see if an even better property (or the one you'v already booked!) has lowered it's price (this is common). You won't get a vaporetto from there, though - - you can take the train to Santa Lucia or a local bus to Piazzale Roma. As Greg said, staying at Piazzale Roma is actually more practical, though it will cost more.

Hotels Plaza, Bologna, Tritone, Trieste, Paris ....
all rather noisy |
BTW: no vaporetto to Venice: either train to Santa Lucia or citybus to Piazzale Roma

Greg is correct - just as easy to get to the airport from Piazzale Roma, so stay near there or near Santa Lucia - plus you are right in Venice - much nicer for getting to/from your hotel.
