Hotel Near Spanish Steps- Hotel Forte? Other Recommendations?
We are planning our honeymoon for Mid-May and are looking for a hotel near the Spanish Steps- price range between 175 to 225 Euros. We already plan to stay at the Del Senato at the Pantheon during the front end of our trip but would like to stay near the Spanish Steps on the back end of our trip. Has anyone stayed at the Hotel Forte? Any other recommendations? Any advice would be
appreciated. Thanks in advance-

We stayed at the Hotel Fontanella Borghese in May 2002 - great location - about 1/2 mile from Spanish Steps - the people working there were so accommodating. We were very impressed. Rooms aren't huge, but comfortable. Hope you have a great time.

Hotel San Carlo is near to the Spanish Steps. It has 'rave' reviews on this website. I've booked to go there with my wife in June!
Archie

Hello Jane,
Congratulations on your upcoming marriage.

I always recommend Casa Howard. They have their own web site, www.casahoward.com, and 2 locations near the Spanish Steps: 1 is on via Capo le Case, the other on via Sistina. They are a small guest house, and each location has 5 bedrooms, decorated in a different decor. It's very charming.

I had to cancel a trip to Rome last month, but I rescheduled it and will arrive this Tuesday. As Casa Howard was fully booked, I will be staying at the Hotel San Carlo, and will be happy to give you the scoop on it upon my return on the last day of this month.

Buon Viaggio,
BC

Thanks to everyone for their responses! We will look into the Hotel San Carlo and the Borghese. Also, my fiancee has informed me that our hotel budget is more than I thought-- we can go up to 300E. Any other suggestions?

Well within your budget and a pleasant 5 minute walk to the top of the Spanish Steps is my favorite hotel, La Residenza on Via Emilia. It has excellent rooms, an English-speaking staff, and wonderful breakfasts.

The Hotel Mozart has received good reviews and I like the d'Inghelterra. They have good sized rooms and some have small balconies. Great location right off Via Condotti.

Hi Jane

We are booked in at the San Carlo in June. It was recommended as a "small budget Gem" by the Eyewitness Best of Rome guide. Somewhere on this website someone mentioned to ask for a certain annex or wing or something to make it even better, and now I can't find it!!

Thanks again for all the kind responses. We are having a difficult time picking a hotel in this area for some reason. We are set in all our other parts of Italy but Spanish Steps area remains a challenge for some reason.

luv2explore- I found this text under a search (keyword Hotel San Carlo). Looks like Room 59 is the preferred room?

Message: My husband and I used this site to get a wonderful recommendation for Hotel San Carlo in Rome. We have been confirmed for 5 days in May 2003. I do know that the highly recommended Room 59 was booked for our requested dates.

The hotel allows us to request our room number, if we'd like to change what they've given us. They've assigned us #79 in the newly renovated Annex. Does anyone know anything about this particular room? Should we request another one? We are starting out our Honeymoon here and would like to room to be a special one.

Any advice or thoughts would be great!
Why not stay at Hotel Italia which is a short distance from the RR and spanish steps. It costs about l00-l20 euros ,8 extra for air.WE found it to be located in a nice area within walking distance. The leftover money could be used for a nice meal and then some. wwwhotelitaliaroma.com Very nice people running it.

Another vote for the Fontanella Borghese. We paid about $190 a night in October 2002 -- we prefer to spend a little less on the room and more on the great Italian food.
