Hotel near Rome Termini

We arrive in Rome from Dulles on a Tuesday a.m. in April. Wednesday we will take train for the day to Pompei (must go; I've been, DH hasn't, highlight of trip for him). Thursday we must be in Florence by 4 p.m. I think the best hotel would be near Termini because of the shortness of time. Can you suggest hotel? Big requirements are clean, air conditioned, and safe. I'd like to spend about $200 a night. Thank you!

Want to clarify that we will be using train from FCO to Termini, train roundtrip to Naples/Pompei, train to Florence. Again, thanks.

Last December I stayed at the Hotel Aberdeen on Via Firenze, which was about a 15 minute walk to the Termini train station.

I don't have their website address right now, but I'm sure you can find it by googling the hotel name.

Since I was there in December I got a deal of 90Euro per night including breakfast, I do believe the price has gone up this year. Can't help with the Air Conditioning question, I was more concerned about heat in December, but I seem to recall that they may have had AC. I found the room to be very clean, large for European standards and the staff was extremely helpful.

Hope this helps!

I think the Nicolas Inn is close enough for you but not in the tacky area too close to the stazione. Nice B&B with good people.

Do a search here for reviews.

It's ~150m from the main side entrance of the train station.
And ~50m from one of the minor side entrances of the station.

It's a nice 3* hotel, I've stayed there 4x (last visit '05).
Regards, Walter

Hotel Duca D'alba is one metro stop from Termini and about a five minute walk to the Coloseum/Forum area.

I am also going from Dulles to Rome in April. We are booked for the first night at the Best Western Canada, and for four nights at the end at the Residenza Cellini. Although I haven't stayed at either yet, both are highly recommended on www.tripadvisor.com. Both are within walking distance of the train station and near other public transportation. I got a discount at the Best Western (I think through AARP), and a discount at the Cellini for paying cash. Worth checking out these properties.

A beautiful hotel very near--about 1 block (you go out and turn left.) is www.romehotelmediterraneo.it/
We stayed there in two rooms--connecting, and really nice, like a suite. (family of four)It has a wonderful breakfast too. It was reasonably priced as I recall.

Thank you all for replying. I looked up each suggestion on tripadvisor and individual website. We chose Best Western Canada for $191 a night and 24 hour cancellation policy. Others were very tempting but wanted to stay within budget.

It has been a while but we have used Hotel Rex which is pretty close to Rome Termini but far enough to be out of the hustle/bustle. It is very nice hotel but may be out of your price range. Check it out.
