hotel near Luxembourg Parc- Paris

I need a hotel very near Luxembourg Parc in Paris. I will be alone for two days and one night waiting for husband to join me before traveling to Amsterdam. I need a safe area because I love getting up very early and walking in Paris. Have never stayed in this area and would love your advice. Want to stay around 200-250 USD. I have checked Tripadvisor, but also trust people on this forum. Thanks

I, of course, meant to say Jardin du Luxembourg:)

If you are planning to walk in the gardens very early you should know that they don't open until 7AM.

I happen to love that area and I'm sorry I can't help you with a hotel recommendation because I don't spend that much money for a hotel.

You can take a look at this thread for hotel recommendations. Guide books are wonderful resources and their recommendations are no less valuable than the recommendations of strangers on travel boards. Guide books are very reliable because they want repeat business from customers and the only way to get that is to be reliable.

Here's a hotel I love and it is in your price range. I love the garden where you can have breakfast or use the tables for a take out dinner. It's also great for lounging after a day of sightseeing and talking with other guests.

bronnies - that's a cute hotel (too bad it doesn't fit the OP's price range). Was it noisy? rue de Vaugirard is a busy street.

I've stayed at the 3* Hotel Trianon Rive Gauche which is only about a block away and nice because it is off the main blvd. It is very reasonably priced, less than your target usually. http://www.trianon-rive-gauche.com/index_en.html

Otherwise, both the Pantheon and Hotel des Grands Hommes would work (sister hotels), one is a little higher level than the other. http://www.hoteldupantheon.com/

I haven't stayed at either but know people who have who liked them. I have also stayed at this one (it is smaller than H Trianon, but also only about a block or two from the gardens) and it's nice, also http://www.hotelsorbonne.com/

BTW $200-250 USD for a hotel in Paris is not astronomical and shouldn't be looked down on as being really extravagant, especially in St Germain. In fact, it is hard to find hotels cheaper than that in that area, that isn't deluxe level. With the current exchange rate that is only about 150 euro to 185 euro, which is a good target for a 3* hotel in that area during most of the year. The H Grandes Ecoles is only a bit less than that (145 euro) and is a bit farther from the gardens, actually.

A few years ago I stayed at Hotel Le Clos Medicis, which is on rue Monsieur Le Prince, almost across the street from the Jardins du Luxembourg. I was there for 10 nights, and was very happy with the hotel. I had a superior double room, which was quite nice. The hotel is fairly close to the Luxembourg RER, which was convenient from CDG, and the closest Metro is Odeon, which was a little walk down the street. I'm not sure about the room prices now, but I think they might be in your ballpark range, especially if you get an "internet" rate, and of course depending on when you will be there. I thought the location was great, and REALLY great for proximity the the Luxembourg Gardens.

Thanks for your suggestions. Hotel Le Clos Medicis, Hotel Clement, and Trianon-rive-gauche are three that I've looked at and like. Love the others, but euro 270-350 is a bit above my budget for a quick overnight.

adrienne, I do use guideooks extensively, but I'm always a little wary of their hotel and restaurant recommendations. I may be wrong, but I've heard they are often based on which location will pay the most for the advertising. Is there some truth to that? Also, thanks for the reminder about the hours of the jardin. On our first trip to Paris we were so tired and sat down in the park to rest. No sooner had we sat down, but several gendarmes started blowing whistles and kicking everyone out of the park. We started laughing as we left, and one of my favorite trip pictures is the one my husband took of me with one of the guys who had been vigously kicking everyone out. He was very nice and accomodating when we asked for a picture. Silly memory.

Thanks again for the suggestions.

Hi joday. You mentioned Hotel Clement which is recommended in some guidebooks. We stayed there for six nights last August and would definitely stay there again. Rooms are small but it's Paris. We felt it was great value and location is excellent, if it's close enough to the park for you.

hi joday,

a couple of years ago we stayed here:

http://www.les-jardins-du-luxembourg.com/

very reasonable, and very close to the RER station and the gardens [just across the road in fact up a little alleyway so it's very quiet].

you can easily walk round st. germain and down to Notre Dame from there, and the RER stop makes it a doddle to go further.
