Hotel Nazionale Anyone stayed here/
 

Found on the internet a special deal for a 3 day weekend to stay on this hotel Nazionale in January. 216E each night. We will be in Rome longer,but this looks like a good deal to get our trip started off. The pictures of the hotel and amenities look great. Any personal experience anyone?

Is it on Via Nazionale which is a very long street? What landmark area is it near-Termini,Trevi,etc.? I personally think that 216E a night is high for January.

I definitely agree about the rate, dutyfree. Unless it's a quad or something, that's pretty high.

According to Rick Steves book and the hotel description on the internet the hotel Nazionale is a landmark palace-address Montecitorio Plaza sharing a square with the National Parliament Building near the Pantheon which is the area I want to be in. His book( 2,004 )list the price of a Db292E. This is a double superior room. Their listed price on thie website is 320E for January. I have not decided on this. I am leaning toward the Albergo Del Senato which everyone seems to recommend so highly. Their rate for a standard room is 225E. You can see why I might have thought the Nazionale might be a good price for 3 nights,but then it would be a move. This is my daughter and I making our first trip to Italy, although we have traveled to France London, ireland, Scotland, Prague, Hungary, and Austria. So this is not our first European trip. We realize hotel rooms are small sometimes in Europe in older hotels especially and can be disappointing. Just want a room that is in a quiet place and if the weather is not favorable we can retreat to the room for a short time that is convenient to the sights most of us want to walk around and see in that area. We are staying 7 nights in Rome so any more thoughts on this would be appreciated.

I cannot speak to this based on personal experience, but I recall that many posters have spoken highly of the Nazionale a Montecitorio.

I also recall a longish thread about the size of standard rooms at the Albergo del Senato; I believe the consensus was that they were on the smallish side.

I stayed there this past March and loved it. It had very olde world charm and we felt really safe with all of the guards walking around the Italian Parliament (which is located northwest of the hotel and is literally on the same block). The staff were very helpful and we were very centrally located.

We were about 2 blocks south of the Trevi Fountain, 2 blocks west of the Pantheon, the Roman ruins and the colliseum were about 15 minutes away and the Vatican was a good 25-30 minute walk. We never rented a car or heaven forbid...a scooter which is (seemingly) the predominate method of traveling there. Breakfast was included at the hotel, the sitting room was quaint and we had a nice dinner in the restaurant there once. The room was larger than expected as was the bathroom. It had a safe and a small fridge. There was construction going on next door at the time, so it was noisy on occasion but that was seven months ago. The area is very concentrated with restaurants, shops, drugstores, etc.

I love the ALbergo del Senato. Yes, the rooms are small but they are very well appointed and the location cannot be beat! Also, we always ask for a view over the Pantheon and it is breathtaking! Great staff and an all around great hotel. Also in that area is the Albergo Cesari.

Thank you so much for the information. I have booked for the 3 nights at the Nazionale the special internet price. I looked at the website you used to make your reservations,but as we are using air miles for our trip I could not get the hotel at any better price. It really looks like a nice one, and the staff has been so good to answer my emails. I would like to stay there the rest of our nights in Rome,but it is too expensive. So after 3 nights we will find another hotel which may be very interesting to compare.
The pictures are super. It makes me even more excited about our trip.
Any other information about tours, bus and metro stops I would appreciate.

I think you've made a great choice. We stayed at the Nazionale this past November and will return next March, on the same weekend special. It is a very nice 4* directly on the Piazza Montecitorio, a traffic free square with the Parliament building (and accompanying security) right next door.

We had an Executive room which normally goes for $300/nt. Paying for just two nights, $200/nt was a great deal for this room. It was very large, nicely appointed with a huge, modern bathroom. Lots of amenities too.

Giolitti, some of the best geloto in Rome, is right around the corner (as is the Piazza Rotunda and Pantheon).

My daytrip tour was part of my trip package with Go-today.com. I'm confident that you will find a tour company that will help you in Rome (try doing a search here). As far as the Metro, there is a bus stop in front of the hotel, but to be honest with you we walked everywhere....and I'm not the most fit person on earth...but I never got tired. I have a feeling that you will find that you will not need the bus either. Good luck to you....make sure that you get a good street map (streetwisemaps.com) for Rome. It's a great way to pinpoint all of the local landmarks. Have a great time, my dear!
