Hotel Montaigne, Sarlat

We are getting the final preparations for the trip to France complete. I am finding some of the recommended places to stay are not available. I really wanted to stay at La Lanterne but not this trip I guess.

Can anyone tell me what you know about the Hotel Montaigne in Sarlat. The website looks pretty good.

Thanks for the help.

I haven't stayed in this hotel, since I live about 15 minutes away, but it looks all right. Centrally located, with a big public parking lot in front,so that you should be able to park. Not expensive, so the rooms won't be fabulous, but they look reasonably spacious on the web site.

Have you looked at the Hotel des Recollets http://www.hotel-recollets-sarlat.com - a nicer location, right in the pedestrian area, but on the quieter side. We've always thought it looked charming, and they say they have parking, but I've never figured out where.

Another possibility is the Madeleine http://www.hoteldelamadeleine-sarlat.com/ recently remodeled, and well located. A Sarlat institution.

Thanks for your advice - I love finding folks that live near places I am visiting!
Unfortunately, the Hotel Madeleine was not available for one of the nights that I need. I will check out the other one though.
Any restaurants that you personally like Carlux? I always think people who live locally have the best recommendations.
Thanks.

Les Recollets is indeed in a more charming location in Sarlat. If you get "stuck" at the Montaigne, however, don't fret; Sarlat is very small.

I'm not a local, but we liked Quatre Saisons so much we ate there twice a few weeks ago.

Enjoy your trip--a beautiful area.

You might also want to have a look at a new chambre d'hotes - just outside Sarlat. It's not in the centre of town, but only 2 km. outside, with a pool, and lovely rooms. The owner, Christine, used to have a very high end Chambre d'hotes called La Vigerie, and has now relocated to this somewhat smaller building. She is charming, speaks some English, and has excellent taste. Highly recommended - and since this is her first year, there is likely to be some availability.
