Hotel Monge or Hotel Saint Jacques??

Hello,

I can't decide between Hotel Monge and Hotel Saint Jacques in Paris. I've not been to neither. Both appear to be highly recommended and (I believe) share roughly the same price and location.

I will be travelling with my senior mom in Sept 08. She has slightly limited mobility (would require an elevator, but no wheelchair) and if possible, would appreciate some "extra space" in the room.

Can anyone help me break the tie?

Thanks much.

Haven't stayed in the Monge but I can tell you the St Jacque is fine, very nice, great location. They have a lift except it doesn't go to the top floor, but there are only 4 rooms up there anyway, just specify you don't want to be on that floor. I would not hesitate to stay there again.

We stayed a week in Hotel Monge and were very happy with it. They have a tiny elevator.

We stayed one night in a room on the back side of the hotel overlooking the Arenes de Lutece before moving to the front. I think the first room may have had a tad more space. Some rooms had tubs with handheld showers and some had actual showers. That might make a difference for your mom. You can contact Julie at the hotel's email address. We found her to be very helpful.

We really enjoyed our streetside room at Hotel Monge with a small balcony overlooking Rue Monge.

You will probably be fine with either hotel.

I think they are both OK. I sent a girlfriend to Hotel Monge, only from the advice here on Fodor's. She liked it fine.

Hotel St Jacques is -much- closer to the Seine that is the Monge. HSJ is by metro: Maubert-Mutualite; HM is by metro: Place Monge

I have stayed there a couple of times and was very happy with the hotel. And yes, Julie is most helpful.
