Hotel Metropole in Venice

Has anyone stayed at the Metropole in Venice? I'm trying to decide between the Metropole or the Luna Baglioni. I've considered the Danieli or the Gritti, but I've read wildly varying reviews of them both.

Hi Christi

I stayed at the Metropole about 10 years ago; not my dime, but quite fun. I have since been back for meals and tea.

It is a very nice hotel with superb and friendly service. Wonderful linens and furniture; lots of marble and fine sheets... pretty, pretty rooms.

I had a small single room that was twice as big as most single rooms in Italy, and had a double bed. It was quite lovely with a window over a little canal and I could hear the water lapping against the sides of the canal as I went to sleep.

My parents had a bigger double and it was gorgeous.

I like the Metropole. It is a nice hotel, with a personable staff. It is luxurious, but there is nothing snooty or overbearing about it.

Stayed there a couple of years ago. Very nice but very expensive. Stayed at the hotel Belle Arti a couple of months ago for a lot less money and enjoyed it just as much. (hotelbellearti.com)

We stayed in a quad at the Metropole a few years ago. Location is ok and close to San Marco and it has a dock so it is easy to get to by water taxi from the airport. Old hotel with tiny bathrooms and decent breakfast. Expensive for what I would consider a 3+ star hotel but this is Venice.
Have been to Venice 6 times and love it but although I have stayed in a variety of hotels and apartments over the years I have not found anyplace yet that warrants a return stay. Do prefer the Dorsoduro area or the area near the Rialto if I had a choice for location.

Thanks MJS. Has anyone stayed at the Ca Maria Adele? It's in the Dorsoduro across from San Marco. I've read some good reviews.

Hi Christi -- which hotel did you end up choosing? I'm deciding between the exact 2 hotels for our trip! The Monaco and Grand has also been recommended.

We have chosen another hotel entirely called the Ca Maria Adele. It's supposed to be a small boutique hotel just across the grand canal from San Marco in Dorsoduro. We read some great reviews and are hoping it turns out as great as it seems. I'll let you know. We are going in early May.
