Hotel Metropole - Anyone stayed there??

Has anyone stayed at this hotel? They gave us a rate of $102 which includes buffet breakfast and all taxes/service charges. This is our 10th wedding anniversary and we are without kids so we would like to stay somewhere nice without breaking the bank! Also, how far is the walk from the hotel to the grand place? Safe to do at night? I apologize if this hotel has been rated before but when I do a search in Fodors I keep getting an error message. Thanks for any info!

I assume you are talking about Venice. If so, I stayed at the Metropole in December. It's super, one of the best hotels in Venice.
It's about a 5 minute walk from the san marco Piazza. Great location, and $102
is a good price.
Take it!

"Metropole" is a very popular name for Hotels - so naming a city helps a great deal.

The one in Milan was pretty bad, but I was only there to sleep the night before an early a.m. flight.

I think it's a chain.

I stayed in a Metropole in Montpellier, France which was not great. Stayed in a Metropole in Lisbon, Portugal which was worse, although it was rated as best value hotel in Lisbon by Travel and Leisure.

I can give a personal thumbs-up to the Metropole in Venice (I agree:best in town) and the Metropole in Brussel (if not the best, at least my 1st choice till I find something I like better). They are not part of the same chain. In either of these 2 cases, it's not far to the grand place and safe enough at night.
