Hi, I was wondering if anyone had a recommendation on a particular room at the Hotel Madison? They have sent me room rates for a Double room with bath and double French Bed (does that mean two twins pushed together?) and also for a Deluxe twin bedded room. Just curious if staying in a room facing the Blvd was noisy? Also, are the rooms facing the courtyard smaller? There was a difference in price between Blvd rooms and courtyard rooms. Thanks for any input.

The rooms facing the Boulevard are amazingly quiet and many have a great view of the St. Germain church. I believe that all of these have the twin beds. If you ask for a large bed they push them together and make the bed as a king-size bed (one bottom sheet).

I didn't see the rooms facing the courtyard, but I understand that they're smaller.

We definitely thought that the view from the boulevard-facing room was well worth paying a little more for.

Absolutely! The bedrooms on the boulevard are actually set back behind a small "square," with trees & and bench. We never noticed traffic noise, especially with the a/c turned on. The superior double rooms have a good amount of storage, a real plus if you're staying more than a few days.

Thanks Underhill and Marcy!! Do you have any feedback on some of these negative comments on Hotel Madison? I was also thinking of the Hotel d'Aubusson (I know it's a 4 star) or Rives de Notre Dame (As Underhill has already replied to me on this one). Thanks!!

Regarding bed sizes, my experience has been that if they say "French bed" it means a single bed meant for two people but is actually a little smaller than an American double bed -- about 48 inches wide, or about a foot narrower than a queen. Twin bedded room usually covers rooms where either the two beds are apart or pushed together.

There were some negative comments about the Madison in late winter/early spring, when some renovations were in progress. All those are done now, and my prime source in Paris has looked over the hotel and told me it's just fine. The recent reports on tripadvisor.com have been very positive.

Excellent news on the Madison. Thanks Underhill. It's good to know your source in Paris approves. By the way, does the hotel have an operational fireplace in winter? It would add to the "cozy" aspect.

We stayed at the Madison 3 weeks ago and were delighted with the hotel, the staff, our room and the location. Having stayed at the Le Regent 2 years ago in a superior room with the two big windows, I can say that both my husband and I agree that we preferred the Madison. First of all, the elevator is on the lobby floor while at the Le Regent you have to go up a flight of stairs to get to the elevator. The lobby at the Madison is lovely and elegant with several seating areas, bar and breakfast room. The Le Regent had a small, rather cramped lobby. I can't really compare the rooms because the room we got at the Madison was just beautiful - exceeding our run of the house rate expectations - but I'm sure it would be more expensive than the superior double at the Le Regent. Our room was on an upper floor facing the boulevard (better view than from the Le Regent) and was spacious and quiet. I also stayed in a large (for Paris) room facing the Blvd. Nice view of the church and trees and no noise problem. Don't remember the room no. though it was on 5. Plan to stay at the Madison again next year.

Also great to know about the Hotel Madison's front facing room views. I'm considering such a room.

No, no fireplace--but the two parts of the lobby feel very warm and cozy.

Go for a more expensive room with a boulevard view. The courtyard rooms are very grey and depressing.They don't get any light. I am one of the persons who didn't enjoy my stay at the Madison and it was mostly because of the room.

When you don't like your hotel room, it can keep you from enjoying your trip in general--at least, that's the case with me. My husband is used to moving rooms and even changing hotels until I find the room that feels right.

This is just a follow up to my initial posting. Having just returned from Paris a week or so ago, I am very happy to report that the Madison is alive and well and lived up to all of my expectations. Thanks to all for their comments regarding this great place. I found it extremely comfortable and the staff were very helpful. And, Underhill, just a note, there is a fireplace. It was actually lit one night while we were there. Just a added little bonus on a cold winter night. I took every ones advice and did stay in a room facing the boulevard. No problems with noise at all. In fact, there are electric shutters that roll down if needed. I loved the room and it was ample room for two (room 74). Thanks again to all Fodorites for another super recommendation.
